Since I have been critical on this thread, I will go.

My first marriage lasted 4.5 years. I knew it was a mistake when on our honeymoon walking down the beach on South Padre I made a comment about something we should do with my house and her comment was "You really don't understand. We are married now and your opinion and what you want don't matter any more." It lasted a while longer and she had our son. Then I was informed that she had four jobs to my one. She had the house cleaning, the cooking, taking care of our son and sunbathing, and I was informed that she only had time for one job and that was sunbathing and I needed to hire people for the other three. So I hired daycare for my son and kicked her to the curb and told her she could pay for the other two. Her second husband was a nice fellow. I found out that after 15 years of being married to her and having to sleep in the basement, he just went and took a move for work without telling her and moved to Brazil one day. Never heard from him since.

Fast forward. I have been married to a wonderful lady from west Texas now for 31 years. On our first anniversary the got me a Remington 1100. I bought her a Franchi 20 gauge. She does not deer hunt because she doesn't like the cold, but loves bird hunting. For our 10th anniversary she told me to go to Hill Country Rifles and pick up my 6.5-06AI that she had built for me. For my 60th birthday she told me to book an antelope hunt, which I will take this fall. Yup, this partnership is a keeper. It is truly a give and take. Yes, I did buy her a Mercedes 450SL when we were first married because she liked it and her father was selling.

When asked how we stayed together so long, the answer from both of us it, "If it matters to the other person, it matters to me. If they want something and I really don't mind, fine with me." If you have a big ME ego, it doesn't last long.

Once down the aisle and coming up on 32 yrs for me..

Our first date I took her black bear hunting. We were both stationed in Northern Maine - she knew I was bear hunting over my baits most every evening and asked if she could tag along. I did not tag out that year but ultimately she did :-)

Does not hunt anymore but loves Africa, shoots Registered Trap with me and helps me run our club trap range (actually I help her..).

We did enter into "heated negotiations" when the trophy room expanded into another room in the house..

Another dog and a $9k trap gun settled the negotiations :-)

Looking at your son's face in your pictures I'm thinking it might be worth introducing him to "Surestrike" and get his training started early. Just saying'

Like father like son so I've been told! Cool

I've been married to the same NM cow girl for 22 years. She likes hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. Pretty handy with a horse too.

Just one, 30 years this September. When we met she had never shot a gun or hunted. I told her upfront the hunting and shooting wouldn't go away. After we were married and I finished school we moved back to WY and she said she wanted to try hunting. I started her with antelope and she was fine. We hunted a lot when the kids were smaller then we drifted away doing the activities with them. She was with me when I shot my moose and to date she has the biggest deer either of us has shot. We lucked into a prime whitetail lease last year and we both dove back in and had a ball.

I grew up in Pecos NM. My wife was from La Madera/Vallecitos area. We moved to Colorado in 2001.

For the majority of our lives other than a few short hunts when I lived in Australia, I have not taken a vacation with out her.

I drew a tag in Arizona and booked the lodging, and am going to be gone a week. She is already trying to turn it into a family vacation, and wants me to commute to the hunting area 80 miles back and forth each day, so she can stay in Tucson at a resort.

We just did a family vacation to San Diego and are doing another one to Disneyland in September.

How the hell do I get out of this bullshit?

So, how's this working out for you? Or did it?

I have avoided getting into this because I am sure my situation is boring to most folks. What is important to my bride of 51 years is priority to me and what is important to me is a priority to my wife.

I have hunted wherever I wanted, and my Bass Boat keeps me busy. She is busy with her projects and the cost of her computers and constant ink supply is OK because it is important to her. Get the picture? Smiler

Just plan the trip, tell her it's important to you and she should respect that. If not get a good marriage counselor.
