Lots of marital advice given on this thread. Let's say for fun we post up our number of marriages and their length. It might help BWW to decide the veracity of the advice.

I'll start....

Married once, 41 years to the same badass.

Cheers
Jim

Twice, first for 11 years 75-86. We grew apart and for some odd reason she took offense when I came home and told her I was going to date/have sex with other women. No sense of humor.

Second from Dec 31, 1992 to date. Wonderful wife, 3 wonderful kids. I've been far luckier than I deserved. BTW she's come with us a few times but she's not a hunter. She's welcome with me and most people that know her anytime.

First marriage lasted 2 1/2 years. She didn't like that I was gone hunting as much as I was and that just wasn't going to work as its what I do

It worked out in my favor as I met my best friend when I moved to CO and we've been together for 9 years and have two amazing children together. She's never said anything about my hunting and we are both happy. She goes on trips with friends and I'll watch the kids, I'll go hunt and she'll watch the kids and twice a year we go somewhere together. Honestly, I feel like the most blessed man on the planet. Here's my family, my beautiful bride, my daughter that might be the most loving child I've ever known and my son mean mugging some kid that took something away from my daughter. This picture embodies my family to a T. So funny!

She also doesn't mind deer heads in the house....

I plan on walking into the sunset with this one

I have been married for 16 years. We went on a safari to South Africa for our honeymoon, so that pretty much sums it up right there.
She has hunted with me in every western state except California and Nevada as well as gone on hunting trips to Alaska, South America and New Zealand.
She made half of the pack trips getting my Shiras bull out, finishing up at 2 AM.
Would not trade her for any woman.

We had a very clear conversation when we were dating, I like hunting, she likes traveling. If we can blend the two then we are both happy. I always plan extra days after the hunting part of the vacation for touring or hiking.

Thanks Frostbit

Marriage is a compromise and it takes a team effort to make it work.

My wife is also fine with dead bone in the house

Simple. Because this is a "public forum" and he asked for opinions. Maybe I am missing something here, but I havent noticed too many other members whining on AR about their marital issues.. It all seems pretty out there in left field to me. Kind of like the screwball relative who cant resist bringing their personal baggage to a family reunion. CRYBABY cuckoo

Once and just celebrated #41 the 26th of last month. She'll also be by herself here again in MI while I'm out in Wyoming and Arizona from 8/27 until I get back about 11/5 or 11/6. It's just no big deal in our marriage and never has been because things were discussed BEFORE we each said I do!

PS: Beautiful wife and kids you have there Drummond!

My wife passed after 45 years of marriage. My wife loved to boat and beach but did not fish; she loved to camp but did not hunt. She could cook and cook well, any sort of game I brought home. We raised two sons that followed us into the woods and water while still in diapers.
My wife once told a friend "when John goes hunting or fishing, I expect him back when I see him."

I'm fortunate in that I found the perfect mate early.

My wife and I celebrated our 60th anniversary this past March. We have known each other much longer than that, though. Our families were neighbors when we were kids and she likes to say she married me to get even after breaking her arm at my fifth birthday party.

She has no problem with taxidermy, and has decorated our home and cabin with the 60 or so mounts I've collected on six continents. During our early years, she tried hunting and fishing but neither really interested her. I would have liked to have had her with me on my hunts, but she is terrified of flying and the only time she accompanied me was to Spain. It was her first and only time on an airplane.

I was frightened at the thought of losing her when she suffered a heart attack at our cabin (50 miles from a hospital) last year. I thank God daily that she has recovered because I don't know what I would do without my best friend and lover.

Guys,

Since the tone of the thread has changed a little and some of us are bragging a bit about our domestic situations I might as well step in here. I was married once for 4 years but we were never working on the same plan. We split and are still friendly. Sadie and I have been together in Oct for 36 years. We've hunted and fished together from the very beginning although Sadie does not shoot herself. She is though about as good an outdoor partner as you'd want and when we were doing a lot of DIY in Alaska we pretty much had the boat excursion or fly out dialed with Sadie being the load master. Skinning moose, packing meat or cutting wood never garnered a complaint from her.

When it first became clear we could afford a modest safari she lengthened the trip to 14 days from the 10 I had suggested. Since that time we've hunted and fished in 10 foreign countries and had more real adventures together than I could have ever imagined 36 years ago. I don't mind saying I hit the jackpot. BTW she loves taxidermy and has decorated the house with it and the other mementos from our travels.

I think in my case the trick was that all this was OURS including the current business as opposed to mine or hers. I feel very fortunate.

Since we are all fessing up. I was 33 before I married and real independent. I was a country boy and my wife a city girl. Not long after we married, we moved rural. I did not hunt for several years, I was too busy trying to get ahead. The first time I started back I went deer hunting and my wife wanted me to give a very nice 8pt away. I told her I was not about to! When I got home to hang it in backyard till I could get to processor the next morning. I came in the house after hung and she was crying about Bambi. Fast forward close to 30 yrs later and she loves Deer, Elk and so on. She doesn't hunt but has never once stood in my way to go on a hunt or hunting. She knows that it is a big piece of me and I assume she respects it. Because of that I have been able to accumulate memories that I always dreamed about. One time, we were in the car and she told me that if she preceded me in death she wanted to be cremated and put up beside my "guns and knives" because that's what meant the most to me. There is no doubt, that I, not by design, got the better end of the "Deal".

I bought my wife a Remington 510 at a Salt Lake City gun show, she'd probably like the Remington 37 better...

Nice to read this particular page. Congrats to the gentlemen that posted their successes on the marital front.

Yes it is a partnership. Hopefully, though I'm no one to give advice, BWW will look at the first page of this thread and then look at this page. Seems a lot of the "I wear the pants" crowd aren't on this page saying how lucky they are and that is fine.

We all live by our own definitions and I for one find life much, much easier with a life partner that enjoys the bush and also can spiff up when needed.

Cheers

My wife and I have been a couple for nearly 20 years (October) and have been married for more than 14 of those. We have three kids. We all hunt together, but I do still venture off alone at times. She's understanding about my need for that. I was understanding about her wish to see Europe earlier this year, where she spent three weeks while I tended kids. Partnership? Yep. Compromise? Yep, but neither should compromise core values. If you find yourself doing that, you chose poorly.

My wife (still the first one!) and I have been together for 31 years, 28th wedding anniversary this Saturday. She doesn't hunt and doesn't care to, which is fine for us both. She knew when she met me that I came from a hunting family and that hunting for me is usually time spent with family and putting meat in the freezer. She does love being in the woods and now that our kids can't get out to help me set up and take down tree stands, she helps me.

You just have to keep your priorities straight. Hunting is awfully important, but at least for me, marriage and family are even more important. To the extent that all three can be combined, that's fantastic.

He's scrappy Big Grin

He shares a birthday with a very dear friend and one of the toughest dudes on the planet so I think we'll have the training part covered. I'm going to get him in to wrestling within the year just to wear his little ass out. He was wanting to thump that kid that took the blocks away from Asha
