As someone who is completely against hunting full stop I think you will be surprised to find me here or think that I am here to slate, insult and name call. Well I'm not, I'm here to attempt to understand fuller the views and mindset of hunters. I have plenty of info that supports my anti hunting beliefs but very little other than a couple of pieces given to me kindly by one of your members on the other side of the fence.

I have many questions I wish to ask and hopefully you will be willing to answer but I will not bombard you with them all at once.

My first question is :- other than the providing of habitat which many hunters would say would become ranches/ farms etc without the hunting concession how exactly does hunting and do hunters contribute to the conservation of the lion?

Surely you would be willing to also answer a question. Why, specifically, are you against hunting?

Of course.

I will openly admit that there are two sides to my disagreement with hunting, a rational side and an emotional side. I will be brief in my reply as i'm sure further in depth discussion will ensue.

From the research i have seen regarding lion hunting and the decline of the lion i believe that whilst not alone trophy hunting is a big factor in the declining number of lions. I do understand as i said in my opening post that hunting concessions provide habitat for lions that would be removed if hunting was banned.

I do not agree with the notion that lions over the age of six are 'ok' to hunt as they are past the age of breeding and considered old.

I do not agree that most meat from hunted lions is eaten, i believe thay are only killed for the trophy.

I do not believe in hunting for sport, nor for trophies.

I do not believe the majority of lions hunted are killed with one shot.

I do not believe that guesstimating a lions age is good enough. (the age 6 rule)

I know some hunters do not follow the law/rules of hunting and have no care for the lions or their conservation.

And that is probably but to name a few reasons.

Thanks for answering. I will let some of the more knowledgable members who presently interact with some of the worlds leading Lion experts adress your specific points.

I was not asking my question specific to Lion.

Did your statement "As someone who is completely against hunting full stop" apply to all hunting, not just Lion?

Frostbit, yes my original post stated i was against all hunting but considering i am concentrating at present on the plight of the lion and this is in the 'lion' part i only addressed some of the things i object to with regards to lions. Thank you though for your replies.

Nganga, might i suggest that before you jump to conclusions that i am here to troll or cause problems you give me a chance. There is no need for paranoia, not all anti-hunting people are out to get you.

Jolouburn,
It is not paranoia, you stated your opinion, and I mine. I have learned several things throughout my lifetime. One of those is that the mindset of someone with yours, cannot be changed and you will not take facts as facts.

I could give you statistics....which you will dispute....I could give you anecdotal stories which you will scoff at. I have on several occasions told this forum the only way to fight "your side of the isle" is head on...no negotiation...I stand firm...either we win...or wildlife looses.

The only negotiation that interests the anti crowd is one of "us" incrementally giving way. Step by step until all there are is fenced game farms in controlled environments. Are YOU willing to accept 300 lions die at the hands of sportsman annually to save the species in the wild?

With respect I do not feel it is fair to stereotype me or suggest without knowledge of ME whether I would change my mind on something or not. If you felt that way could you not have just bypassed my thread instead of being insulting and calling me a troll?

I am here out of genuine curiosity and wanting to hear both sides of the story. I have no intentions of causing arguments or being insulting.

I know you could show me research that suggests trophy hunting is in the interests if lions but I could show research which later refines that claim. However I am not here to do that but to learn a little more about the hunter and there views on the issue of lions.

I really have no intentions of sharing my views unless asked like I was earlier in this thread.

Don't judge a book by it's cover please.

Sorry I did not answer your question, no I don't want to see a situation like that arise and I am quite happy to compromise IF it is in the lions best interest.

jolouburn,
I did not sterotype you, you did that yourself by stating you are an anti-hunter. I will now just watch, as there are numerous folks here with better knowledge and superiour debating skills than mine.

I really didn't mean to call you a troll, that is a rather generic "moniker". I am sure you are a very sincere person.

In an attempt to fully understand from where you come, how do you feel about the ownership of firearms? (without permits)

Hello Jo,

Welcome to AR. You will find a variety of opinions here. Some will undoubtly be hostile as many here have been on the recieving side of that from the anti hunting crowd. However most will be polite and will work to try and answer your questions.

However until you develop thicker skin I would avoid the political forum. It is a swamp down there.

John

Everyone else...
Jo is a member of the anti-hunting group on Facebook called "LionAid" that I have posted about from time to time.

Steve, I do not like the idea of anyone not trained to use a gun handling them. I believe all gun owner should have permits and have training in how to use them. So in short I don't like people having guns without permits.

Hi John, thanks for your welcome.

For all others yes I participate in discussions on the lion aid page on face book but I am not a member of lion aid. Lion aid is made up of two people and I am neither of them.

Back to John, it is through holding adult discussion with you that I decided to come here and learn more. You have some interesting points whether I agree or disagree and would like to hear others.

I repeat I am not here to insult, call names or troll.
