I don't know what you mean by compact. Almost by definition, a powerful cartridge will need to have a strong frame, and that generally means big and heavy. The 475 Wildey, the 44mag Auto mag come to mind. I have a 30Carbine by AMT. Depends on what you mean by powerful eg. energy, momentum, flat shooting etc. Peter. A Desert Eagle in .50 AE, with a 6 inch barrel. Not really compact, but probably the most powerful automatic I have ever fired. | |||

Ditto what mb said. Probably the most powerful (and commonly available) compact auto is the 460 Rowland. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson. | |||

A Glock 29 10mm is the best standard size production semi-auto handgun available today. They are fairly reasonably priced as well. It can handle the top factory loads available from Double Tap Ammo and other's. | |||
