Since I'm allowed only one, let it be a Ruger Old Army, Stainless steel, fixed sight, 7.5in bbl with an extra .45 colt conversion cylinder and black micarta grips... Not the most powerful, but it will do everything I need it to. Personally I think it is one of the best looking pistols out there!

If I could have only one big bore revolver, It would be an Encore, not a revolver. Only one revolver would take most if not all of the fun out of it. There wouldn't be anything to ARGUE about.

As much as I LOVE the .41Magnum, it would have to be my .475Linebaugh from D. Clements. It's a Bisley with 5.5 inch barrel and packs crossdraw real nice. For plinkin' loads I use the .480 Ruger of course. Good to go for anything on any continent.

I guess I'd just "dance with what brung me" I have a nice SBH 44 , 4.5 inch customized and cleaned up by Ben Forkin. It has a peep sight on it, very nice now that I'm over the hill. It's killed moose, elk, bear and deer and it's easy to carry. I have a SBH Hunter that is very accurate with a 2x scope, but it's just not "handy". And I can see the benifits of bigger calibers, but I just can't shoot them as well as a 44.

I currently have my favorite revolver, my Ruger New Model .45LC with 300gr Hornady HP's movin' at 1500FPS......Anybody got any better loads? If so, I'll forget getting a "saddle gun", and just keep my handy Ruger packed in close!

I agree, a Dan Wesson in either 44Mag (or 445 Supermag), but I don't want to limit myself to only one barrel length....
I like a long barrel (10" or 12")for Hunting 8" for target work, or a 4" for carry.

Make mine a ruger super blackhawk .44 magnum I use a 10 1/2 " but if i could only have one i might make it a 7 1/2( might) From 10 grains to 300 + grain hard cast bullets thats all i would need.

SW 629 4 inch. The 44 mag is so versatile that I can do almost anything that I would want to do with it.

FreedomArms Premiergrade .454, one piece I have never regreted buying or found any reason to question the price. The smaller frame .41mag would be very welcome aswell!.....for Dr.Evil would not be complete without MiniMe.

I am perfectly happy with my 5.5" barreled Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt. It can do anything I would need it to do here in Alabama. The 460 mag sounds facinating, but I think I would rather rebarrel my #3 for it rather than carry it in a handgun.

Easy. One of Hamilton Bowen's Custom Ruger Bisleys w/ 5 inch barrel. Oversize 5 shot cylinder in 45 Colt.

I am not a huge fan of the .357 Magnum, but if I were to be held to a single revolver, it would have to be a 4" Model 27. .38 Special ammo is easy to obtain, and with 180 grain bullets, the magnum would work as as survival gun. With .38 Special 158 LSWCHP +P, it is a decent self-defense round. My second revolver would be a .44 Mag. It would be my first if I could substitute a 1911 .45 ACP for the Model 27.

I forgot to mention the 629 is a 4" Mountain Revolver.

Don't recall if I posted on this thread or not, but if I could only have one, it would be a Freedom Arms mdl 83 premier with 6" octagon barrel in 475/480.

If it's one handgun that I ALREADY own, I'd have to say my old Ruger 10" Flattop .44 mag...

If it's one gun that I'd LIKE to own, I'd say a FA Model-83 in the new .500 Wyoming Express...(or possibly .454 Casull so I could also shoot hot .45 Colts in it...)

My Wildley 45 Win Mag.

I first posted on Feb 17 and at that time I couldn't decide which of my guns I prefer because they all have a special purpose but some time has gone by now and the snow has been melting in the mountains....

It's time to head out into the great outdoors to do some prospecting and I will be carrying my 7.5" SRH 454 Casull with 360gr WLNGC Cast Performance bullets loaded to 1520fps.

Moki -- that sounds like a brutal load! Have you changed the grips on your SRH?

I did buy pachmeyer replacement grips and do most of my practice shooting with them on. I also wear Uncle Mike's shooting gloves and a neoprene wrist brace when doing a lot of practice shooting.

When I'm in the bush with the gun I sometimes switch back to the factory grips due to how much smaller and easier to grab them quickly. I feel that I am not going to be taking to many shots so don't worry about the recoil. I don't really feel that it is that excessive anyway though.

The recoil of the 360gr loads actually feels less than my 300gr XTP-Mag loads @ 1625fps. Another load that I like is 395gr WLNGC Cast Performance cast bullets @ 1420fps. This load has even less felt recoil than the 360gr loads and if I even had a chance to have a SRH Alaskan this would be my load for the shorter barreled gun.

All of the cases fall out of the cylinder very easily. One thing that I really like about the SRH cylinder is that it is made out of a special metal that expands when the pressures exceed ruffly 55,000 to 60,000 psi resulting in an excellent way of telling when you are approaching pressures that are still totally safe in the gun but begin to have tight extraction problems.

If I am working up a load for the SRH I go until the cases begin to have sticky extraction then back off 1/2 a grain of powder resulting in a totally safe accurate load every time.

I load 45lc brass at beginning loads for the 454 casull,no pressure,comfortable to shoot in my 15"Encore 454 casull pistol or 20"Bullberry 454 casull rifle barrel soon to be 460 barrel.My powder choice has been H110/W296 makes them move out. Bullets from cast performance,sierra & hornaday. Hornaday has worked up load data for the S&W 460 contact them.

I get 1900fps with 240gr XTP-Mags in my 7.5" Ruger SRH 454 Casull with 39grs H110, Win brass and Rem 7 1/2 primers........

This is why I'll never get a 460S&W....

The 460S&W really isn't any better than a 454 Casull and you have to cart that huge gun around as well.

Moki -- the reason I ask is that with warm loads the stock SRH grips really slap me in the hand. I plan on changing the grips on mine in the very near future.

In that case my answer to you is that the replacement pachmyer grips do help a lot.

I would stick with my 7-1/2 inch barreled Ruger SBH in 44 Mag, though I admit a 5.5" barreled SBH would be more portable.

I had thought about getting a "Keith No.5" type Blackhawk, but I don't see them offered. Did Ruger drop it?

I like hogue grips on my blackhawks as they fit my large hands better and cushion the recoil.

4 5/8" blackhawk in .41mag.
