A Hamilton Bowen five shot .41 mag, built on the GP-100 frame...

If I could have only one, it would have to be my Grandfathers old SAA Colt. It is in .41 colt with a 5 1/2" barrel. I know it is pretty animic compared to the big modern magnums, but it sure has character.

Ruger Bisley Vaquero SS .45 Colt made correct by one of the top revolversmiths you have down there....Load would be 325 gr. LFN @ around 1100fps max....don't have any experience with a .475,.480 or .500 so have no opinion about them....mic

Easy, my S&W Classic DX .44 Mag with 8 3/8 barrel. For some reason I shoot it better than any handgun I ever owned regardless of caliber.

Whichever one it was, it would say .41 Magnum on it! "No one told you when to run; you missed the starting gun."

If it was strictly to do handgun hunting and not hunt with a rifle it would be the 500 S&W with 8 3/8" If it was to have a handgun "on my hip" to carry while fishing, camping, hiking, or in addition to a rifle it would be the 44 Mag in a 6 1/2" S&W. Barstooler

I think it would have to be my 460 Mag. Even though I love my 500 Mag the 460 is more well rounded in my opinion. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. It would be the stainless steel 45 Colt in this photo. CPBC 325 gr LFN's at 1275 fps is all I need.

The one I had with me at the time . I see big bore revolver in several capacities, one self-defense, a good 4" double action S&W, deer hunting a 6" or 6 1/2" S&W double action, Ruger single or double action, Bisley Blackhawk and Stainless Redhawk in 5 1/2" flavors. I could get by with a .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum or .45 Colt. As a belt gun for concealed carry the 4 inch does well. For something to be there "just in case" a four inch isn't in the way, has access in seconds and shoots accurately enough to take targets of opportunity at 50 yards or so. The short sight radius gives me confidence, if not absolutely the best accuracy. The 5 1/2" to 6 1/2" models are stand alone hunting guns, usually is shoulder holsters. The Redhawk is a little heavier but digests any load that is sane and a few that aren't. The Model 24 S&W or any Mountain Gun carries great. If I could get a stainless triple-lock .44 Special round butt 4" now that would be something. Can I have a set of 20/20 eyes to go with it?

My choice is a Dan Wesson .44 mag w/ 6 1/2" barrel. It is the most accurate big bore handgun I've owned, and it easily handles the 320 gr hard cast max loads I shoot through it. I can also handle the .44 well, and recoil is low enough that second shots are possible, not that I've ever had such a scenerio I'm planning a 4 1/2" barrel with no underlug to lighten it up for carrying as a last resort weapon for AK.

It would be a .454 cas but I shoot a .445 super mag DW

If I could have only one big bore it would be my Gary Reeder 510 Hunter in 510 GNR. The caliber and gun are capable of taking anything on the planet. It slings a 435gr cast performance bullet at 1250-1300 fps in the 8" bbl I have or it can be loaded down with 350 gr bullets to 50 special velocities.

I love my Model 29's, but if I could have only one large bore handgun it would be a Colt SAA with a 4 3/4" barrel in .45 Long Colt. TH

I'll gladly stick with my Blackhawk in .45 Colt. 255 gr. Keith @ 950 fps will kill just about anything you want, it'll punch long ways through a deer at 100 yards. Whats sweet is that you can go hotter, say 325 @ 1400 for anything, period. Mild to wild, the .45 Colt is tops in my book.

325 gr @1400 fps from a .45 colt sounds scary. My Hodgden manual lists 1250 as top speed, for the +P loads for Ruger, etc.

This is the very question I asked myself recently. As a result, I just bought a FA Premier Grade 6" in .454 Casull with an additional cylinder in .45 acp. J Scott

It would have to be my Model 83 in .475 Linebaugh. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

I love the 500 S&W and the .41 mag, but for the sake of reality I would stick with my 6.5 inch S&W .44 mag. Just a great all around wheel gun with easily found ammo.

The only big bore revolver I currently own (or care to own) is a S&W Model 624 44 Special with a 6 1/2" barrel. It will sling the Kieth 250 gr SWC at 1000 fps. Enough for me.

I have FA's, Rugers & Smiths in big bore calibers, but if I were forced to one gun it would be the S & W Mountain Gun. Penetration and accuracy for hunting most all NA game, light enough to carry all the time and can be concealed if needed. No doubt, if I had to get rid of all my handguns (God forbid), I would hide or bury my Mountain Gun for future use. Prayer, planning, preperation, perseverence, proper procedure, and positive attitude, positively prevents poor performance.

Freedom Arms Mod 83 in .44 mag with a 6 inch barrel for ease of carrying. Mine has an 8 3/8 which is fine for hunting, but poor for carry. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

If the one needed to be the biggest and badest then it would be my 50 Alaskan revolver built by by Jack Huntington If it is to be for all around then my 45 colt 6 shot also built by Jack Huntington _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

I wouldn't mind a Super Blackhawk in .480 with a five-shot cylinder. I have had Redhawks in .480, .45 Colt and .44 Magnum and I couldn't get nearly the accuracy I can out of an SBH .44 because I find the double actions uncomfortable to shoot. Most comfortable revolver for me is an SBH .44 with 10 1/2-inch barrel. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

I'd go with Boxhead's SS Bisley Blackhawk in .45LC. Need to change from my red wooden grips to those dark grips, though. They look great. And Paul H: you've got me interested in the .480, too. If I buy one, it'll be all your fault. Steve

If I do not already own, the only gun I would own, then I have not been diligent in obtaining that which I think I really need. Having said that, I do own my first choice and that is my Freedom Model 83 10" silhouette in 41 mag. It will do all the hunting I can imagine and shoot perfect scores in a match. Too bad I don't shoot to the capabilities of the pistol. Better go practice some more. Joe
