Nice looking boar. However, may I inquire as to the spear/arrow points in the shadow box below the mount? Where are the from etc. Just curious. The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it. | |||

Ryan, regarding the two large blades, I didn't find them, but was told by the person from whom I bought them 30 yrs ago that they were found in the North-Central Arkansas/South central Missouri area. They are finely made points without breakage, and could easily be modern imitations. I don't know how to tell the difference. The stone/clay oil lamp was given to me by my late mother-in-law. It had been given to her by her Air Force pilot husband who was later shot down over Germany. She said she thought it was from South America. The smaller heads are common around here, as they are most places. The clay pipe, I don't remember where I got. The metal knife was a piece of junk. A lady-friend with good intentions gathered up some my collected items that were just in a shoebox and had them put in the velvet-shadowbox, as a gift. Steve "He wins the most, who honour saves. Thank you for sharing that. I do know someone who can tell if the large blades are "real" or not. Meaning if they were made by modern man or not but he would have to look at them. Nice blades either way though. Difficult to find ones like that unbroken. The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. Looks like a big old sus scrofa! As far as the points go, feel of them. If they are sharp they are fakes. If they are dull, they have been around a while, and the elements (rain, etc.) have dulled them. Pretty simple, really... | |||

Steve, the large left blade would be a Dovetail. Not very indigenous to your area, but S. MO, yes. The right blade is a Corner Tang knife. Normal range: Texas. Close up pics can help but only a hands on exam would tell. Material should be studied under a microscope (yes, flint knappers are that good today). Also the material. Is it indigenous to the area they are found in. Take a look at this 5.5" Dovetail knife I made a few years ago. TN is definately a major "dove area" but not the material. I made it from heat treated coastal plains chert. These large blades were used as knives and not "spear heads." Be glad to look at them anytime.
