Hunting for me is all about moments and unfortunately I am not always behind a camera … when the hunt ends with a great trophy , of course that in itself is a great moment , but truly its just a culmination of many many hunting moments ..

Here area few pictures that capture what have been great moments for me in 2009…

This captures the immence beauty of the eastern cape , I like to hunt these areas on foot , walking and glassing and planning carefully an approach done like that its some of the best hunting in the world , this pic captures one of a million moments like it ….

The recoil of a 700 that’s a moment right there !!!!

A man and his double rifle , just having a quiet moment , mike sager , a great gentleman who saved and dreamed for ten years to hunt elephant with a double rifle …here he is savouring the experience…

the campfire …need I say more !

when two great friends share a hunt , in this case josh spies and his dad , watching them from a distance sharing great moments is awesome for me … just enjoying their trophies and discussing the merits of each …. This was the first day in chewore south with chifuti in march this year , I love the valley when its green !

a moment that mark success , when your ph writes the trophy tag !!!!!

Here is a moment that’s very special to me …. my nephew Daniel , he came with me on a hunt in Chewore north and Chifuti with Craig and Bill Jones , passing on the hunting ethos is very important and Dan with Bills 700 here is getting some amazing experiences . we need to hunt lots with kids so they learn the value and values of it ….

sometimes its almost overwhelming how blessed and humbled one feels out there especially when a great and majestic animal is involved .

Extremely thick Botswana ivory and a very very old bull …

when you are at the fire in the early morning , the air is icy and nobody knows what the day will bring … each person has a moment at the fire when they picture what might happen , all the pictures are different but they are all what keeps us out there and going back !

and seeing ivory here stateside and remembering the hunt itself is the ultimate memory jerker….

In great hunting and great memory creating , weather a whitetail hunt with your son or an elephant hunt in Africa ….enjoy the moment !!!!!!

Ivan,

Thank you for posting the photos, especially the ones with Daniel. While at SCI Johnny showed us the DVD of your Lemco hunt. Johnny could not have been a more proud Father.

Ivan,

Very inspiring pictures. There is far more to taking a photo than pointing and shooting. You continually prove that with all that you do. I'd also like to say you look right at home among all that ivory... DAN

I have a picture burned in my memory that I never took in Zululand in 2004. It was an early morning with a valley full of fog and the sun was just breaking the horizon, with all the various shades of pinks, purples, and yellows. I kick myself every time I think of that morning for not asking my PH to stop so I could take the photo.

You can bet I won't next year when I visit the Eastern Cape!

Nice pics!!!

Ivan,
I really found myself drawn into the picutre of the feet, ready for the day, around the campfire and your thoughts of each person having their own vision for that day. Well spoken! I know that is exactly how I feel, a slight chill in my bones, muscles still a little tight from yesterdays jaunt, but the mind thinking, praying, invisioning what the day may bring. Thank you posting these pictures.

Very nice!

Ivan, the bases for the ivory you show in the last couple of photos, where did you get them or have them made? I have several sets of ivory and have been looking for nicer bases without a lot of success and your bases are terrific.

Thanks,

I hope Ivan doesn't mind me responding on his behalf, but we are always so proud to do Ivan's work.

Here at The WIldlife Gallery we have our own custom wood working shop and produce these pedestals in house. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Please drop me a line... Thanks - DAN
