Heard the same thing yesterday, some folks weren’t very happy since they had bought passes online and were told at the entrance they had to get a printed code. I’d have been a bit upset too.

I agree. Worst I have ever seen at this event.

Yesterday, I saw no place for those who were preregistered to pick up their badges.

I saw Cory and asked him. He didn’t know and he was looking . He did escort us to a booth where they printed out our badges.

Completely agree!

We went yesterday at show opening and it was a cluster. I had bought online tickets in advance and saw many misleading signs labeled “Buy Online. Skip the Line”. I saw these and proceeded to the show entrance only to be turned away and sent to the will call line which was as long as the lines for purchasing tickets. A lot of frustrated folks in the will call line, myself included.

Otherwise, DSC is a fantastic show. A 10 minute wait in the will call line is an extremely minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

Thank you to all the folks at DSC for another great show!

I was looking on the DSC website and all it states is that if you purchase a ticket you will be allowed to enter the convention floor.

I could not find anything about needing a QR code to enter the convention floor.

So what does this QR code do or is it to show that you have been vaccinated for covid?

I am thinking having my knee replaced a few weeks ago is a plus now, as i was wanting to drive down and take it in. I just would have had to Sit down more than walking around. Plus, i did not want to miss out on 2 rehab sessions.

Registration is a pain in the ass. For the first time I can remember, there is no coat check.

There have been some crime issues. Some vehicles have been stolen. An exhibitor’s trailer was broken into and things were stolen.

Regardless, there are a lot of people. Everyone I talk to is doing well . It is a good show. We have had a hell of a lot of fun.

I do have to wonder what will happen in the future. I understand this facility will be torn down and a new facility will be built. That will take time .

Despite a little delay with SW Airlines and a 10 minute glitch to get the passes cleared, my daughter and I had a great time seeing many old friends and meeting some new contacts for future hunts. Many of the top outfits we talked to are booking into 2025. My view is the convention is a great success and most attending are enjoying themselves. Seems like many love to dwell on the negative, the glass half empty attitude.

I would hope that most folks that traveled to the convention are staying multiple days.
I am sure you have a 4 days pass so you are one and done on registration.
Just walk in with your badge from then on.
Plan on going back tomorrow.
Live local so easy in and out.

Stood in line for 5 minutes on Thursday. Bought a 3-day pass and walk in the door each day with them scanning the pass. Not denying the negative experience of others but from my perspective it has been a piece of cake. I like the name tags this year with names too. Show seems to be well attended and the outfitters seem pretty darn happy. No complaints.

I assume they were sold on the idea by some third party company extolling the greatness of their product that would simplify entry. I got mine easily during exhibitor move in.

I have only been there Thursday afternoon, as my real job needed attention, as did my father. I know I missed meeting a few of you. I hope to be there all day Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, the Omni booking service has faced criticism. The union workers, as well. It is unclear which of these are obligatory with the venue. The Omni/Convention Center are public/private collaborations. Without knowing the details, DSC can’t control the entire aspects of the show.

To change the topic at the convention in a positive light.
I noticed all or a lot of the floors were carpeted this year. I do not recall that in the past.
Makes it easier on your feet and standing all day rather than standing directly on concrete.

I do not remember seeing anyone with a mask on either other than the food vendors.

Heading over there again today.
Have my eye on a nice side by side.
Visit some more african safari companies.
Searching for a spot/ ranch in Wyoming. Idaho, Utah or eastern Montana that might offer fly fishing and bird hunting at the same location. That could be a yearly event.

I think last year is the only year they did not have carpet. It does make it easier on the legs and quieter, especially the older I get .

I saw a few with masks but not many.

I wish they had benches spread around the floor for people to have places to sit .

It is indeed busy. The vendors I talked to are doing well. I expect today will be the busiest .

I think what has changed (starting last year?) is that we all wear name badges and those name badges have a QR-code that allows the exhibitors to scan your badge to get your details. Only a few exhibitors scanned my badge; the rest still took down details in a notebook.

I pre-registered and had a similar experience to those described above but was sent to the exhibitor check in and only had to wait a few minutes. Clearer signage would work, or... if you pre-registered and could print your badge in advance, that might be even better.

For coat check, they used to have one, but didn't have one last year, so this year I skimped on the coat.

Having said all that, the show itself was great. I was able to talk to everybody that I wanted to talk with and go and come back the same day by air. (I have a 10-minute drive to the local airport, 40-minute direct flight to DFW, then an hour DART ride to get to the convention center. After the show, I met one of my daughters for dinner, then caught a 9:20 flight back home. I could've driven 4 hours each way.)

Attended yesterday for the very first time. I was there from 9:30-4:30 or so. I had no trouble getting in and enjoyed myself thoroughly. The DSC did a great job! I saw some friends and made some new ones. I did not get to meet any of my AR friends. Next time.

A few comments, (1) do not wear cowboy boots. I walked, walked, and walked and stood and walked more. By the end of the day and flight home, my feet really hurt. Should have had my Courtneys or OnClouds. 2) I'll definitely get a lunch reservation at a good restaurant in downtown Dallas next time. The food in the hall was fine, but it would be worth it to get out and find something great. (3) the Bloody Mary's were excellent. (4) I flew in/out same day. I'd likely not do this again. Probably better to fly in, half day at snow, spend night in Dallas, then half day at show then fly home.

Overall, A+ experience and I'll be back!

Today was jammed packed. While I have no clue of official head count, it seemed as high or higher than I ever remember.

I had two exhibitors make an interesting comment . They both said they hated Saturdays as there were too many tire kickers.

We left around 3 PM.

Saw a lot of people I know. Bought a few things . Had a big time .

I feel sorry for the exhibitors that have to put up with the tire kickers. Some people that buy a day pass and have no plans to ever go on a hunt, but spend time talking up outfitters, taking their brochures and then tossing them in the trash.

Went for the day today, took only about 5 minutes to get my name tag printed (for a pre-purchased ticket) and into the exhibition hall

Those purchasing tickets at the counter had a much longer line, but that is to be expected on a Saturday morning

We had a fantastic Friday and Saturday. Bit of a delay getting online passes and then having to stand in line for thr QR badges, but not bad. Great time seeing old friends, booking with future friends and drooling over the Guild rifles. Another great DSC.

I have been in and out because of other obligations and owe apologies to those who stopped by #2126 Miles & Miles when I was not there.

Tire kickers are part of the deal. We have multiple tables and are right by a bar. The tables provided by the bar get full, so people sit at ours. When asked if they are interested in a hunt, they respond with just resting their feet. That’s fine, but I hate when they leave trash on our tables. I’ve chatted up some people just being there and it has been fun.

Yes, using a brochure for a coaster sucks. In the end, it’s the cost of doing business. Some did actually pay attention to the booth and say “that’s really cool.”

It is still a great show.

Interesting comment.

One thing that I think is severely lacking are places to sit at somewhere other than the bar or the food court.

SCI has benches spread throughout the floor. Definitely useful .

The convention has something for every one.

Reading about the tire kickers, I think some of them purchased something or made plans based on what they picked up or observed. I know that i save the handy DSC flyer listing all the businesses at the convention. That way i can go an internet search if i wanted too.

As for the brochures that are picked up, i know i seldom pick up a brochure, however when i do i have a hunting trip in mind that i want to go on and then i am comparing one business to others. So if i pick up 4 or 5 brochures and go with the one that I think is a better option for me. I guess that is considered being a tire kicker to the ones that i did not book with.

I am not there this year, however i usually help some friend out in their booths. That still give me time to look around and take in parts of the convention. In the past i spent Wednesday helping set up and was in attendance Thursday, Friday and Saturday driving home. I usually did my looking around on Thursday as it has been in the past a lite day in attendance.

Some times a person likes to walk and stop to say hi to PH’s that you have been chatting with on line, a quick stop and off you go.

I have hunted in different countries and have went with different PH”S, i guess i am a little different as i am always looking to go with some one new. Africa has many different species to go after, i am looking for something different than shooting 20 impalas every time you go over, or there is another warthog.

I thought it was, over all, a pretty good show (not going today until move out). Here is a suggestion on how to miss the QR code mess. If you can come a day early or stay late on Sunday, or spare 3-4 hours during the show…you can sign up as a volunteer, there are lots of opportunities and you get a name badge (with QR code) that will admit you to the show all 4 days. Just another option.

If my aging memory is correct, SCI does not have these issues. I think they have a large number of machines that scan something .The passes are printed right then. I don’t think the wait has ever been more than a minute or two for us.

My experience was nothing but positive. I walked up to the ticket counter at 0830 on Thursday morning and bought a two day pass and a membership to DSC in about 5 minutes. Also had no issues with my Southwest direct flights from PHX. Went on to book my hunts and flights with no drama. For me it was a very good show.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel was another experience all together. Never again.

This was only my 3rd DSC in the last 10 years. Compared to SCI, which I attend every year, I found the DSC atmosphere to be more relaxed. The general demographic of the attendee population seemed to have a different "vibe" than that of SCI. Just my observation. I'm interested to see what change, if any, the move to Nashville brings to SCI.

There are some definite differences between the two. Not sure what they mean.

For example , one outfitters wife makes aluminum items with an African theme. At DSC she sells out . At SCI, she sells very little. Why?

Don’t know what that means.
