The time it takes to read this collection of immaterial waffling, would be better spend in the Bush with a rifle on the shoulder.

Maybe I will start a thread on un-ethical Weatherby award winners. I wonder if that would piss anyone off as much as the Capstick bullshit.

Leave the poor bastard alone and admit he gave us some great reading on a sport that we all love.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I understand that Peter wrote around 20 books, not bad for a so called fraud, and does anyone have a definitive FULL list of all his publications...

Finally is there a PHC website to visit

This is the closest I have come to find a Peter Capstick dedicated website.

Ken Wilson has it seems put a basic one line type (advert page) which promotes Ken's video's

Just as an aside ... Ken apparantly is a good sort of a chap from our (own personal experience) when he visited (some years ago) and filmed at my brother Alan's Dendro Park private ranch in Zambia

SCI's record book is now available online, and I subscribed and did a search for entries with Peter Capstick listed as the professional hunter.

In addition to the elephant mentioned above, Capstick also guided the same Italian doctor to a puku on the same safari. There were no other entries with Capstick as PH, however.

I then checked the doctor's other entries and found Capstick was not his only PH. He has close to a hundred other trophies from all over the world, including elsewhere in Africa, in the SCI records.

The same PH who told me about Capstick also said that Ken Wilson is a douchebag. After watching the "Sportsmen on Film" Capstick series I think he is probably correct.

Chipolopolo sent the complete Capstick collection to an AR member with the understanding that it would be passed on to the next member in line after he was done viewing it. Has that happened?

I found another reference yesterday to Capstick’s professional hunting career while reading “Hunting, A Few Memorable Trips,” a book self-published in 1983 by Joseph C. Lawler and Oscar S. Bray.

In the chapter “Mixed Bag In Zambia,” Lawler talks about his 1969 safari in the Luangwa Valley with PH Brian Smith of Luangwa Safaris, and says:

“It was good to hear Peter Capstick, Brian’s fellow professional, tell of hunting jaguar in the Mato Grosso and of enormous strength and agility of the leopard, an animal he considered the most dangerous in Africa. Peter was a writer as well as hunter and his storytelling was a delight.”

The other client in that camp was someone named Jack Buckley, and Capstick was Buckley’s PH.

Trophy fees were ridiculously low then, and Lawler shot elephant, buffalo, lion, and black rhino on that safari. Although Lawler didn’t write about Buckley’s hunting, it probably can be safely assumed that Capstick also guided Buckley to one or more dangerous game species.

I always find these discussions interesting. It is a fact though, "That a man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still." I have always enjoyed Capstick's writings. The only thing I can say is if you think he is a fraud, JUST DON'T READ HIS BOOKS. Many story tellers embellish and if you want to call it a lie you are free too. That's the beauty of life you can believe what you want to.

Go ahead, and while you're at it ask him about trying to cop a free safari from the PH in question because "I'm Ken Wilson" and I make videos. Also ask him how much of the money from the series Fiona and Gordon Cundill saw.

what you want to bet, he will decline to answer on the flimsy excuse that the PH mentioned asked not to be named. i will be amazed if we see an answer.

I realized I said I was done with this post...oops..pole sana!! But in defence of Mr. Ken Wilson: I've known him a few years (and also guided him once). Let me tell you (from my own personal experience.....not 2nd hand like yours): Ken is a tough hunter, very good shot, and one of the nicest guys I've ever hunted with! (BTW: he appeared to me as a modest gentleman; not a "Been there...done it all" type...that I see way too much of these days!). I've watched many of his videos, and found them well made & entertaining.
Regards the PHC film series: I believe Ken simply allowed Capstick to be Capstick. your statement is not very clear. I'm sure Ken did not write a script for PHC to follow, so why blame him?? If PHC looked badly on film that was his own doing (or undoing).

As PH's, we really don't have the luxury to "choose" our clients... Good, bad or otherwise....we pretty much take whatever bookings we can get. But Ken's an excellent client (who follows advice & shoots very well). it would be a pleasure to hunt with him anyday!

It somehow and quite miraculously escaped that steel trap you have for a mind, but you're the only one dragging him into it.

I'm a pretty simple guy. But so far I've managed to keep several thousands of people out of countless threads I had the good sense not to start in the first place.

Managed to think of that.

Well? Do something.

I'm still waiting for a better book.

I'd think that at some point all the guys producing volumes of stuff on how poor the excrement that Crapstick managed to pass off on us unsuspecting illiterates could get their doo-doo together in one nice and tidy neat little pile and off to a publisher.

But Bill, how can this be? Adrook tells us that after years of research and fact finding Peter was never a PH in Zambia.

Of course he quotes an unnamed PH also. Sounds like he and his friend made up a bunch of stuff and now don't know how to get out from under their stories. Or the unnamed PH made it up. Roll Eyes

No, no, you've got it wrong.

adrook didn't "quote" the PH.

He's keeping him out of it.

Adrook made a huge point of mentioning that the anonymous Zambian PH we're not talking about is not involved at all in the discussion of his views on Capstick that we are studiously avoiding.

Because that would violate a confidence!

Get with the program!

Oh, my bad. I didn't understand the subtleties of the situation. The risk of starting unsubstantiated rumours about a man and damaging his reputation would call for the utmost discretion.

adrook's Deep Throat wouldn't want to have his name attached to a truthful expose of a Poseur because he has his sterling reputation as PH and over 40 years of experience to back him up.

But like the mysterious Deep Throat, adrook and chipolopolo have also chosen to hide behind anonymity while choosing to degrade someone who didn't. Seems like a lot of fellows hiding out and throwing rocks from behind the outhouse.

It must be a Character thing.
