One of Us |
In ages past, man had primitive weapons and was frequently dependent upon the ability to kill ANY animal for his/his family survival. Since Herding of domestic animals and cultivation of crops has been developed, we are no longer dependent on hunting. Since the development of the Rifle, we no longer need the skills of stalking that we did need in the past. We hunt now to primarily satisfy a genetic drive that is still within us. We enjoy it. Hunting has also become the most important game-management tool. The Kill is an important part of the hunt. But those humans who really enjoy the killing part more than the searching and nearness to nature, the comraderie frequently involved, the self-control that can be exercised, and the physicality of the hunt---they have something wrong with them. You wouldn't want them to be around your family. -- So--There are some things that are very good about hunting, but there are also some evil people who can be involved (not only as hunters, but as some of the facilitators). "Ethics" is simply a word that we use to describe what we think is right/Good, versus those that are wrong/evil. Good and Evil exist in nearly everything, and their discernment should be a goal of all normal men. Some of the things being discussed here are minutia, and neither obviously right or wrong. The guy who criticizes a method of hunting and then does it himself is obviously a hypocrit, but I think he's still trying to be a decent Human--most of us are hypocrits at some time or other.
