Saeed/Don thanks for making this website non searchable by google and other search engines.

I am more and more reaching the view point stated by Steve Ahrenberg (fight club analogy) - elephant and lion (maybe even leopard) hunting has reached a point of being socially unacceptable behavior. Its perfectly legal in jurisdictions where it is conducted, its has economic and conservation benefits. But it is very difficult to rationally argue with some of these anti people on the merits of elephant (even lion) hunting. Its a tough public relation sell in favor of hunting. Much easier to sell the anti-hunting story to the general public.

Kind of like why we don't slaughter horses in US anymore. Even though there are MANY unwanted horses and a market for their meat.

Yep.

It is called do as I say not as I do.

Bloody hypocrites!

Do you remember the nasty mail I got from an Australian women working at some university a few years back?

Apparently she was searching for black mamba, and got to AR.

She took exception to us and wrote me a very nasty email.

I posted her email here, and we found that she worked at a university, and she claimed to do a job she was not qualified to do.

She got very upset that I had posted her email, saying that it was just private between me and her.

I told her to take a bloody hike, and stick her own views somewhere else.

Some members here wrote to her university, and had her all up in an uproar and VERY upset.

Someone should do the same to this brainless, attention grabbing idiot too.

refer her to a little hard work and more than a little hard science

the history

the local view

the safe position for the species

and suggest that in this audio review she will for certain find where she fits in the global scheme of elephant conservation

the reference is--- ivory's ghosts --- on audible.com

will do us all [here on the forum] good to freshen up on the history and current debate on elephant and global regulation of ivory

fleshes out the role she plays as an exploiter of pink elephant pajama emotion to gain personal benefit and status at the expense of; Africa, elephants, and the people that live among em

Anyway it matters not, because my experience always has been that of---- a loss of snot and enamel on both sides of the 458 Win----

We are in strange political/social environment. This social media stuff matters especially for niche issues. Blackfish has had a impact on sea world than free willie which was far more successful movie franchise.

I do agree with you that SOME videos on youtube are very silly, and make us look utterly stupid.

But, I would never hide what I do from them.

It is none of their bloody business, and I am prepared to defend what I do, regardless of what they think.

Ultimately, I am not, under any circumstances, allow them to dictate to me what I should and should not do.

They do a lot of things which are abhorrent to me. But I don't waste my time telling them to stop it.

Buzz,

You are a coward. Why not stand in front of a buffalo or an elephant without your gun, big man?

You are selfish and out of touch with the disaster facing Africa and your business.
First, despite what you put on your pathetic website, hunting elephants is not "YOUR PRIVILEGE" Please change your business to PROMOTE ECO-TOURISM...Africa does not have enough elephants and wildlife to sustain your slaughter. Besides it is SO UNCOOL AND UNPOPULAR . You must have been that boy nobody liked in school. Now you know why you are disliked. Because you are despicable.

What does hunting elephants provide? To others you look like a sociopath. You are to be saved or shunned, healed or harmed, but not encouraged to kill defenseless animals, especially elephants.

Please help create an environmentally focused, self-sustaining enterprise business until the elephant and other critically endangered species no longer face extinction. Because an elephant is poached at 100 every day and they will not last long. You cannot afford to KILL ELEPHANTS...
Please help us save the elephant from extinction, not just because the elephant is a cornerstone species, whose loss will destroy the world’s second largest rainforest, but because elephants are one of the most amazing, advanced animals who deserve our protection.

Does it give you and your clients a false sense of superiority to shoot an elephant?
In fact, it is YOUR DUTY TO PROTECT AND NOT KILL ANIMALS. Full stop. You make a livelihood of decimating endangered animals and that makes you and yours evil and selfish.

I’m also filming a documentary entitled, Elephant DaZe for which I just traveled across Africa and the USA to interview top conservationists and grassroots activists. This Elephant DaZe film serves as an educational tool to galvanize humans to save the elephant and protect the planet’s vital but endangered biodiversity. I have just returned from filming in Central Africa where I met passionate people who fight poaching, promote sustainable African development and employ effective wildlife conservation programs. I also met poachers and corrupt government officials whose despicable behavior perpetuates murder and instability. I wish we had met. I would have left you with a lasting impression --and shown you how foolish and misguided a person you have become.

Phyllis

Guys, what has gotten your dander up? I do not see a threat, not even a veiled threat, in this email.

Sure, she is misguided but that describes 95% of the Earth's population when it come to conserving wildlife.

Buzz, I think you should grant her a face-to-face meeting. It would be very easy to present an iron clad case for "why legal hunting benefits the African elephant". There are few more qualified than you to take on such a task. If you had Richard Harland by your side you might even convert her by the end of the discussion.

Honestly the "nutters" that worry me aren't the ill-informed(like Phylis) or the "I'm gonna get you and your family" nut-jobs. The guys who worry me are the AR members who seem to be vowing to take our side and sink to the some lows as Phylis and her kind.

We are our own worst enemy.....

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry

As much as we see them as nut cases who have no idea of the reality of conservation in Africa or the challenges Africa faces , they are the voice of a an ever growing force that is closing hunting , as much as we want to discard their ramblings , millions are not , they in turn put pressure on politicians who can make far reaching decisions.
Can you convert them ? : my experience no , its like trying to convert Muslims to Christianity or visa versa. Can they be educated or enlightened ? Again my experience they prefer the ramblings of false prophets and anti hunting evangelists - remember these evangelists make a living from well intentioned naïve animal lovers who are easily conned out of substantial amounts of $ .
All we can do is continue to fight misinformation with facts, set example by ethical and responsible behavior and teach our children the value of wise utilization and sustainable use of our wildlife resources.

Absolutely spot on Larry. Ranting and raving about their ignorance and preaching to the converted does nothing to change these peoples outlooks. Somehow the majority need to be educated. Fast. They need to understand that they do not have to like hunting or want to do it themselves , but simply admit that it has a place in the whole conservation model. They need to get to terms with the fact that the big steak they had for Dinner was consumed partly for pleasure and an animal was killed for that pleasure. They did not have to kill it , and that's fine.
Maybe I'm asking for too much common sense , maybe this education thing is just a pipe dream.... Confused

When my first book was published, a local newspaper reporter did a story about it. Not only did I get threatening letters and phone calls, but also letters to the editor about how horrible a person I was. Most of it I just laughed about, but some I felt compelled to respond to, which just made things worse. These dim bulbs have no clue how the world works. Their "logic" leaves much to be desired, and they disregard any facts that contradict their preconceived opinions. I wish you the best.

Many years ago I formed a crow hunting organization here in the States and that generated a flood of hate mail that I continue to get regularly. Trust me, there is no amount of logic or statistical facts that will change the minds of these folks, many of which I believe are mentally unstable. All you can do is shake your head and have fun with it. Here are some of the classics:

Buzz, obviously this woman is not only overly judgmental, but has no grasp of reality. Elephants defenseless? Really? No doubt she bases this comment on viewing the remains of many "eco-tourist" who did nothing other than to walk into Jumbo's neighborhood. Ele's saving rain forest? How, by destroying every piece of flora they can wrap their trunks around? Without question she is only self promoting her agenda and...wait for it...her own docudrama. Wonder how much MS. Mental Midget will make off this self promoting film. And all those accolades! Fruit Loops and his boy toy Lucky Charms will be so excited! These types are usually the most vile, ignorant, violent wannabe's that draw breath from mother Earth. What a waste! Bet they've each spent hundred's of thousands of dollars conserving the worlds near extinct wildlife. Just another day in La-La land. LDK

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Let's just hope she tries to go pet a wild African elephant. She will find out like the poor Chinese fellow, Disney animals are a fantasy.

Personally I have always found that when you reply to the moron that you are contacting their service provider with a copy of their e-mail and threaten to service provider with contacting the state/province/country communication authority………. well they disappear, never to be heard from again.

I have done this……… hunt bears and get hate mail. I can assure you that most e-mail providers do not look favourably on any user that is harassing others.

I get into their onions right away when I get a negative communication.

These might be of interest to some of us:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/.../2003/21/section/127

http://andreasmoser.wordpress....unications-act-2005/

http://saperlaw.com/blog/pract.../defamation-lawyers/

The first two links refer to the UK & the last one to the US but FWIW, similar legislation is in place in most countries around the world and abusive messages are often equally as illegal as libel or threats etc.

Personally, I don't think we could cut these people any slack at all. They are entitled to their own opinion but they cross the line when they start sending obnoxious messages.
