Anything to report on the so-called "Rally for Cecil" demonstration that several anti-hunting sites claimed would draw participants from all over the world and take place every day of the convention?

There was a television story on channel 3 Las Vegas last night. Basically parroted the Guardian article(The "pay to slay" convention bullcrap). They are supposed to be protesting each night. Haven't seen a thing, but Las Vegas metro had some cops strategically stationed going into the convention, with a ton of hotel/casino security throughout and any news media/photographers thoroughly vetted before even being allowed into the convention. Looks like SCI prepped for this. The convention is HUGE this year and was very busy for a Wednesday!

About 6:45 last night we saw an estimated 20 people holding protest signs on the NE corner of the property. I am told that the protestors have been banned from entering the property.

Finally, I noticed armed security everywhere in the show.i do not recall seeing that before.

The Kafue variety lacks stripes and the teeth are not nearly so big. However a lot more hair around the neck.

I bet you can get one in South Africa that is pre measured and guaranteed to make the SCI book.

Front page article in the Las Vegas a Review Journal this morning about the antis and their agenda, with a second separate article two pages over. Spoke with some SCI sources and with some MGM Resort sources who have assured us that they are coordinating on the anti protests and issues. Another busy day at the show! Loving it!

It was reported to me that attendance was down 30%. I was just there Wed. & Thursday and it didn't seem as crowded as usual.

I did have several friends who booked hunts, both in Africa and North America.

Also didn't really see any "trophy" wives or girlfriends on the arms their sugar daddies! rotflmo

Best regards, D. Nelson

I thought Thursday was definitely busier than Wednesday. Nice getting together Darin. Also fun to meet Faisal. He'd be a fun guy to share camp with.

The convention is physically bigger this year. Mandalay Bay added a ton of new convention space. It is spread out and you aren't running over people.

I liked that it was on one floor. Heck of a distance from 1000 to 6000.

Most of these "trophies" are a lot younger & very nice on the eyes to look at.
When you see a 60 yr old man with a 30 yr old woman on his arm, it ain't because she's in love with HIM!

Shootaway;
I've been going to the convention 20 years and back when the economy was good, you couldn't avoid seeing young women on their "daddy's" arms! The jewelry & furs were remarkable and definitely there to be noticed! I didn't notice anything being flaunted this year, except one big guy 6'5" or so dressed in all black, bleached blond hair & jet black beard...I think someone called him Buck! Maybe I'm super observant, but I wasn't looking for such, just couldn't avoid it!

Don't regret it I think we all found the humor in it with the 1 notable exception. I have not been to an SCI Convention since the mid 90's and remember it as you do.

I think it is the also the capitol of bleached blondes as well. I was in Colorado over the holidays and met a family in the airport; the matriach of the family was blonde with dark eyebrows. Just looking at her I thought "Bleached blonde, they are from Dallas, and they are going skiing."

I was right. I don't ski anymore but I do remember feeling sorry for all those Texans who came to Colorado every winter - they were no more skiers than the women were blondes.

I measured how much I walked on Wednesday, using my IPhone, and it was 8.2 miles!

Spent the first day just going up and down each row once. Went back the second day and went just to the highlights and it was only 4.3 miles.
