I got to wondering how many travel on Safari with a non-hunting observer verses travel alone.

Reason I asked was prompted by Karl's Buffalo offer in the discounted hunts.

The observer fee is waved.

I thought this was a great business move and would like to see it more often.

The hunt I have booked for 2012 had the offer built into it, which on a 21 day hunt ended up a sizable chunk of jingle.

I took the old girl with me on the first safari in 2006. Glad I did because she loved Zimbabwe and understood why I wanted/needed to go back. I went by myself the second hunt; the guy who was supposed to go with me backed out in 2008 because he thought Zim wasn't safe. Next hunt I'll be taking my son.

My wife wouldn't let me go to Africa without her. She loves the adventure and the people. She is probably a better hunter than I am, she just doesn't shoot. She has found and called the shot on two or three of the ones I've taken. You should see some of the pictures she has taken with her and the PH stalking herds we weren't going to shoot......Tom

I have taken my Dad on almost all my "out of Montana" hunts and my wife and Dad on my only African hunt last year.

Next year I'm taking my Dad, wife and maybe my two daughters two Zim. It's expensive but you can't put a price on sharing adventures with your family.

My Dad did a ton for me when I was growing up and the least I can do is take him on some fun stuff to repay him for all he has done.

My wife, who I like to call the Travel Nazi (no offense intended to you PC folks), loves to travel anywhere and I don't think she'd be left behind even though she's not a hunter herself.

She absolutely loved the first trip to Africa and I'm glad she's willing to go back and watch me shoot a bunch of stuff!

My wife has been on all 3 trips to Africa now.

Then my son, now 11 has been coming for the last 2 years.

Now my daughter come along as well, last year to Africa.

Trouble is we have gone from 1 hunter to 4 hunters.

So I will be going more often, but shooting less.

My son has been informed there is a Tab for each trip which will need to be repaid.

Ha, how do you think I went three times!!

She loves Africa and it's people. AS I write this she is in Ethiopia doing mission work.

Seven trips for her and only three for me.

Gotta catch up somehow!!!

We are usually a party of 5 my son and I hunt and my wife and 2 daughters observe. However that will probably change since one of my daughters now has the "itch" she shot a bait impala last time and wants to shoot more this time. It could get expensive. But its only money they print more of it every day.

I have urged my wife to come with me but she just doesn't want to. Not sure why. We have done a lot of fairly adventurous travel, in the US and Central America, together. Africa just doesn't interest her. My sons, however, can hardly wait. They have both been promised a PG hunt for high school graduation (though the older of the two says he'd prefer a deep-sea fishing trip-- which is great too!)

My better half went with me the first time as an "observer". Second time she she said to hell with that...I want to HUNT!!! So..."we've" been hunting there every year since then and we split the the bag. I got most of the trophies I wanted the first year and she is still getting her's. I mostly shoot culls and varmints while she catches up and WE have an absolute blast.

Last year we took an extra week and rented a car and did some extra sightseeing and plan on doing that again this year.
