...who shows up with his 13 posts and his big guy attitude because he films Craig Boddington with a video camera and takes exception to anyone who criticizes CB. Apparently because he's in the television industry he knows a lot more than the rest of us regular hunters. I wonder if he wipes Boddington's ass for him in addition to kissing it?

I went back and read that TAA thread, you know people tell me all the time if I don't like it turn it off. NO. I do like it. I simply agreed with Sgraves155 and got hammered for it then he became invisible. If you don't like a post don't fucking read it Larry, you sure kissed Dave's ass when he showed up.

Sorry, I was attempting to voice an opinion regarding the ethics of certain types of hunting/Sports-Writing. No one appeared to be in an "Ortega y Gasset" mood. All they gave me was angry epithets, insults, and my hat handed to me. I am sure many could give reasoned responses, but apparently not when one of their icons is impugned.

adrook,
Dave Fulson may be a fine fellow, I don't know him, but his post did give me a chuckle when he described CB as "overseas, busting his ass to make a living" doing what the rest of us are usually saving our money to do for fun.

Adrook,
Dave Fulson is a part owner of Safari Productions, a TV outfit that produces a variety of TV shows and hunting oriented DVD's. He is a partner with CB on this.

I have met with Dave and found him to be an extremely knowledgable guy, has hunted Africa dozens of times and is very unassuming. I met him outside the "convention circus". I have talked with him on the phone.

He is level headed and knows what he is doing and talking about.

I am in the energy business, not the safari business. I have been in and part of a couple of TV hunt shows in the US. I came away from the experience thinking that I was glad I do not hunt for a living or have to make TV shows. These guys have to be outdoorsman extraordinaire in order to film what they film. Dave's crew and his work is really "work". It is not fun and games. I would not to have wanted to put out the DVD "Boddington on Elephant". It must have taken a tremendous effort to get the footage as well as the photo ops. I am sure the the video team turned down more shooting ops than that actually videoed due to light or position of the animal or something that prevented a shot on film.

I admire these guys but could never do their job. They spend 100 or more days a year in the field, away from home sleeping tents and doing what they do. It would get real old real fast, especially if the animals were not there.

Fulson, Boddington, Buzz Charlton, Ivan Carter, Mark Watts and others are hard working guys that do what they love - but it comes at a price.

I would not want to be CB at a hunting convention a listen to all of the drivel from a world of wannabees.

I really take issue with thinking that doing what CB does is have fun hunting. What he does and what Ivan Carter does is hard, butt busting work. It is pleasure for us, but I would say that after 60 days in the bush making videos, each of us would be ready to go back to our regular job.

If you think it is easy or fun, then why are there not more people out there doing it? In the US or Canada, no problem - you can buy a camera and make movies and attempt to sell them. Africa is a different deal- more problems, more logistics, more expense.

If you think it is easy - video one of your hunts, edit it and attempt to sell it.

I think you will find it is a lot harder than we all think it is.

dogcat,
I am sure you are correct in how much work the videographers and PH's do, and I am sure much of it is hard-work, although it is also a pleasure much of the time. Dave's remark, and mine, were not regarding those folks.

Andy,

I shook Craig Boddington's hand once and that is the total of my personal expereince with him so I can't comment on his character further. Dave Fulson who I know only slightly better seems like a good guy. What I can say is that in my expereince the product that they put out individually or together is of a high quality and a "MUST" viewing/reading for people contemplating their 1st or 21st safari.

I wouldn't say Craig is a hero in my eyes, but he does seem very compentent at his job, be it writting or doing video hunts. It is his job and apparently a job he enjoys. I guess I am lucky as I enjoy my job greatly, but unfornatally people won't pay to watch me do my job. I guess I could be jealous like many here and spew sour grapes.

I do have great respect for Craig and his crew for the excellent job they do.

As my son said "My heros are people that do their jobs and do them well." So in his eyes I am sure Craig IS a HERO!

Of all the folks I know, among the least I'd like to piss off in person is Jeff Wemmer. I do not want my head mashed like a pimple.

Stay my friend, please, Jeff.

While I don't think it well advised to get nasty and personal in a defense of oneself or a friend (btw, I believe Boddington and crew can let their videos, in effect, speak for themselves), I suspect a little jealousy, a little pride in product, a little anomynity on the internet and a little testosterone have made this thread more about personalities than about anything pertinent to any safari I'm going to take.

Yeah, I'm guilty, too. I get personal on occasion. I'll try to do better, 'cause it seems that everytime I meet an "adversary" in person, he turns out to be an o.k. guy.

See ya'll on another thread.

It is the perceived anonymity of the internet that allows the adrook's of the world to exercise a faux bravado that leads them to call people names, without even having to post their location. It is a dangerous thing to do, as there are methods available to locate internet posters, and it may confidently be presumed that all posters on AR are not emotionally stable.

For instance, the use of the words gutpile, shooting and Lion in the same sentence has a tendency to attract my wrath. But I still recommend the use of caution in a posters tone.

They show you are actually more guilty of what you accuse others of doing than they are. And that you can't comprehend it even when it is laid out flat before your eyes.

I'd have no problem saying it to his, yours, or anyone else's, spare me the machismo.

I don't like Boddington's writing. I don't like his style, I find it dry and boring, I think he is cheesy on camera, and I think most of his articles read as though they were written by the marketing department of whatever company made the rifle, scope, binoc, etc that he happens to be using at the time. If you guys don't like my opinion I don't give a shit. I'm entitled to it and it is every bit as valid as anybody else's on here.

Adrookie,

At least we do agree that Dan should be allowed back on the forum.

But, dang man your manners, well, suck! Busting on CB is passe, every icon has it's detractors, but if you really got to know Dave and the Safari Classics guys, you might figure out that these are exceptionally motivated and talented people plying their craft for all to see and enjoy - what's this angst you radiate???

About Dave and Safari Classics, you may very well be right, I have never met the man. I agree that it is good that folks are at least producing videos for people to enjoy, especially in this age of political correctness and PETA.

You agree that Dan should be let back on the forum. Hell yeah, we have some common ground there.

Cheers,

Wow, you make it sound like someone's twisting their arms, or there isn't another videographer position open in the states. That's so sad. I guess it's another sign of the tough times ahead.

Mike Rowe is always looking for candidates for his "Dirty Jobs" Discovery Channel show. Someone should nominate these hard, butt-busting videographers and PH's. Then all the chicken pluckers and ditch diggers can be thankful for how easy they have it.

No, you and the rest of us are free to vocie opinions on myriad issues. If some disagree so be it, after all this is a FORUM where folks posit all kinds of opinions and thoughts. BUT EXPECT "hammered" when you post lies (there's no other word for it) about your outfitter telling you that Craig went over and pressured him for free hunts.

That's a made up bold faced lie (from you or your outfitter "friend") and you know it. It's that simple. You lie and you'll get "hammered" jorge
