This "Angolan Field Group" has field cameras capturing wildlife, including natural hybrids. Sounds like the wildlife is making a strong comeback, but hybridization may endanger some of the Giant Sable http://angolafieldgroup.wordpress.com/palanca-negra/ Hybrid bull Hybrid cows hybrid calves Steve "He wins the most, who honour saves. Are Sable and Roan so closely related that these first generation crossbreds will not be sterile? | |||

Don't know if anybody knows for sure. If any of the hybrids were fertile, it would likely be the females, and if that happens, maybe the cameras will document a hybrid w/calf. Craig Smith, of the African Sporting Gazette, informs me that only female Giant Sable have been photographed. The search is on for remaining males. Craig provided this photo of a young male that is hopefully a candidate to help prevent extinction: Steve "He wins the most, who honour saves. Success is not the test."
