Wink

Probably a little better than your youtube video of shooting a sleeping Lioness. Wink

Yep, we all live and learn. You might have noticed it has been several years since I posted any videos on You Tube. Some folks live and learn, some folks refuse to learn or adapt. Which group do you fall in?

P.S. You undoubtedly did not take the time to check, but I also changed my privacy settings on You Tube some time ago to prevent public views and had the videos unlisted so they do not show up in searches. All part of that whole live and learn notion. Like I said, if you want to smear blood all over your face, or do a full body immersion in blood for that matter, go ahead . . . just not the greatest idea for hunting to post it on line.

I'll learn until the day I die. More from some folks than others.

Seriously, regardless of the date you posted that video why haven't you pulled it down? If I can search and find it so can an anti and I'm sure you would agree that shooting a "defenseless sleeping Lioness" would be nice ammunition for someone like Dr. Kat.

BUT HERE IS THE THING: we now take PICTURES of EVERYTHING. Think about this and you will see that the story, the verbal recounting, the memory after the fact is no longer the point. We have to video or photograph EVERYTHING. Then the picture takes the personal experience and sells it to all the world, for good or bad. Think about it.

Steve

Steve,

This is the crux of the matter. I personally do not understand the desire to video every bloody things we do and I understand the need to post it in social media for all to see far and wide even less.

Whatever floats your boat I guess, but with this practice comes the responsibility to think about where you are going to post the videos and photos and how they will be received. You know I was brought up to believe that you should think about your actions and how they will affect others. Sadly I see most, including a good many on this forum, have the "I don't give a shit" attitude and fall into the "I do what I want category".

So be it. It is the way it is.

Personally I abhor doing the video thing when I am hunting....... a bloody cast of thousands. Just not my thing. I have to put up with it at times when I am guiding as that is what the hunter wants. That's fine, but I completely steer clear of it when I am hunting for myself.

Generally though, people do not think. Another example is when taking photos, many have cameras that have GPS programs and they attach the coordinates to photos they take. Then they put them up on the internet and internet savvy types get the info and can pinpoint exactly where the moose was lying or the bait being hunted over is located.

I have personally seen this info used by anti's to then cause trouble and trash hunters stands and equipment and other hunters to plan next years moose hunt........... danged if they didn't find a moose hotspot!!!!

All actions have consequences, some unintended. Just too bad people don't THINK beyond their own personal wants and needs. Truly our society as a whole, does not care how their actions affect others.

Me. Me. Me.

. . . despite what some would suggest, we simply cannot continue to refuse to acknowledge the changing social environment we operate in as hunters. From my perspective that is not kowtowing, it is being realistic about how we need to operate to ensure hunting's long-term viability. Personally, in this day and age, why would anyone ever consider posting graphic hunting related content on a site like Facebook? If you want to make a post on hunting on Facebook, post something positive about the contributions to conservation that are attributable to hunting. Likewise on You Tube you can post videos and make them private and mask them from You Tube searches if you want to be able to share videos with friends. However, there are plenty of publicly available videos on You Tube, such as this video, that it is hard to see how such videos serve the interests of hunting or portray hunters in a positive light. We will either evolve with the times or we will continue to see the edges of hunting as we know it eroded away.

Have to agree with Mr. Jines on this one and You Tube does more harm than good. However some video sites do protect viewing and require a password.

In the past we PHs and operators have flicked up pictures of those who maybe do no longer want their face on public media.

My Lion hunters this year will restrict my advertising and I think we will be looking at contracts that protect individual rights when it comes to media, film and advertising.

Never done the bloody face thing but have convinced some that the eating of their first buffalo genitals is traditional. If they are bit queasy then we heat it up for them.

On a lighter side , if they a bit quest we removed them from the buffalo first !!!

On a serious note , I remain saddened by the replies indicating a resistance to the need to change how we display our sport /love/ passion in the public space. Hunting publicity needs to reform period , check all statistics to verify the crashes - from revenues to quotas to open areas to public support , you and I may not care but you can be assured Joe Soap does.

The good news is that many of the prominent outfitters such as C&M , Martin Pieters , Jamie Wilson , the Brooms , the Lamprechts , Michael Angeledis, to mention a few are putting a lot of effort into publicizing the benefits of hunting , and putting money into the conservation side of hunting - this will be the saving lifeboat of hunting in Africa, many will enjoy the ride and benefit from the efforts of a few , hopefully more will move in this direction
