Seems like Walter stayed a bit more in line this year than in years past- or did his antics get reported less because you are all used to him?

Walter stayed in line because he was made aware - in no uncertain terms,by everyone - that his antics will not be tolerated.

Suggestions were made of what WILL happen to bhim if he stepped out of line, but as this is a family oriented website, I am not going to tell you what those suggestions were

I took that picture with a Panasonic FZ200 camera with a 24X zoom lense.

We had some fun with aherd of buffalo we left sleeping in the morning.

We went back in the afternoon, just in time as they started feeding.

We got very close to them, and probably saw most of the herd, but there was no mature bull that we wanted to shoot.

Some youung bulls and cows fed towards us and were no more than a few yards from us.

Gave up as the light started to fade, and headed home.

Just finished dinner.

Tomorrow we hunt only in the morning.

Z-Team Report for Day 20:
Dean and Gary are still very under-the-weather. Especially Dean. So Z-Team stayed in camp today.

I went for a ride-along with Saeed, Roy and Alan. Had a great time with them. As Saeed mentioned, we found buffalo in the AM, couldn't move in on them with them being spread out and the swirling winds, etc, so we left them and went to camp for lunch.

Lunch was grilled cheese sandwiches with curried buffalo mince and noodles.

Went out after lunch to see what we could do with the buffalo. I'll let Saeed report on it.

Dinner was guinea fowl soup, followed by Kongoni schnitzel, mahenge spinach, kachumbari (african picco de gallo as you figgered out) and potato. Desert was "Delicious Pudding", and it was.

Tommorrow is Day 21. Saeed, Roy and Alan will hunt for a half day. The Shooting Competition will be in the afternoon, and Walter will be preparing his world famous BBQ, with a kongoni that Saeed shot yesterday.

Sorry to hear about the illness of Dean and Gary.
A quadruple dose of Malarone once daily for 3 days is one treatment for acute (initial episode) uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria.
Other therapy should be used for recurrent (recrudescent) malaria, for Malarone prophylaxis failure, or severe/complicated malaria.
One complication might be vomiting and diarrhea caused by quadruple Malarone dose.
Need to stay well hydrated and take something for nausea if needed, and fever, if needed.
Dicey doing it in the bush without lab and IV treatments.
IIRC, they got some treatment, hope they are feeling better ASAP.

A no-bag day. Photographic safari continues, no doubt.

Z-Team: Laid up by lack of Swiss chocolate and malaria of Dean and Gary.

Well folks, we are building to the (anti)climax of the annual shooting contest tomorrow.
Good luck to all the staff, and may the best man win, whether he is a good shot or a beginner,
as sometimes happens.

We went up on a high ridge to look for a buffalo herd we had left yesterday evening.

We saw the herd feeding quite a distance away, and the wind was good.

We drove to get to an open area we were hoping they will pass through.

We stopped the truck, and ran towards that open open area.

Suddenly we heard the buffalo drinking in a wooded water hole between us and the truck!

Ran back, and kept an eye on them.

It was very thick wherer they were, so we just waited.

After they have had their fill, they left going away from is. We ran parallel to them to try to see if we could see any shootable bull with them.

We saw a suitable mature bull, and decided to shoot him.

Trouble was, he was never clear. There was always another animal one one side of him or another.

This cat and mouse continued for quite sometime, over a few ridges, and we were getting nowhere.

We then saw that they were going to pass an open area below a high ridge.

We ran up the ridge, and saw the herd walking.

Our bull was on the far side - about 280 yards away.

I fired a shot at him, and he took off with teh rest of the herd. WE saw him break off, and lag behind.

I fired a shot at him again - about 400 yards. He stumbled and and fell down.

We went down the ridge, got close to him, and finished him off.

We loaded him up, and headed back to camp.

In the afternoon we had our usual shooting contest, and this year's champion is Ali, one of our trackers.

Had a great BBQ, and tomorrow we head back to Dar to catch our plane back home.

We are all very sad to see these 3 weeks pass so fast, and leave friends we have enjoyed so many hunts with go in different directions.

But we are all looking forward to seeing or families, with promises of anothet hunt next year.

I hope you all have enjoyed our daily reports.

I will prepare a full hunt report once I have had a chance to catch up, and thank you all for keeping up with us through AR.

We've reached the end of the 21 days....amazing how quickly it goes!!!

Z-Team spent the day in camp. Gary and Dean are on the mend. Feeling much better by dinner time, after many difficult hours over the past two days! RIP, Dean treated with Coartum (sp?) and Gary with a quadruple dose of mefloquine (Larium). Both treatments seem to have helped considerably.

B-Team got to go along with A-Team again this morning. Had a great time as always, and got to be there for Saeed closing the hunt with a nice buffalo.

We had lunch at camp...grilled cheese (a favorite) and kongoni shepherd's pie. Deelish.

In the afternoon we had the shooting competition. 12 guys with 5 shots each. I know many were feeling it after 5 shots! B/Z-Team's car won the competition hands down. Our two trackers, Alli and Ruziki came in first and second respectively...each hitting the target 5 times! A-Team's driver, Lema, came in 3rd. A GREAT time was had by all, as always.

Dinner was the world famous Walter BBQ. This was his best one so far, according to popular opinion. The kongoni was delicious. We had ugali and sauce, and tripe to go with it. Again I overate comensurate with the considerable flavour and rarity of the meal.

Tomorrow we fly out to DAR late in the AM, then on to Dubai in the afternoon, arriving very late. I continue on thereafter to Seattle, then Spokane, and finally driving back to my home in BC. I should get there by Sunday evening.

Another memorable hunt! We've all enjoyed the daily reports and fantastic pics! The only thing that we all really missed this year was some commentary from "The Wife". However, since Walter was informed that he was to be on his best behavior, there was no need.

I had a very pleasant flight on Emirates, as usual, with Chris and Walter.

We parted compnay with Chris at Dubai airport, as he had a flight to catch back home, while Walter and myself heading to our homes.

I have a lot of photos, and will start writing my hunt report as time permits.

Me too, on all counts. It was a great flight from LU5 to DAR, and a wonderful flight from there to DXB. Had a great day travelling, with one minor exception..lol...on the 45 minute "shuttle" from camp to the Lukula airstrip, the tetse flies managed to get in about a dozen more chomps on me...all the while completely ignoring Saeed who was sitting right beside me. lol...we joked that they must be attracted by my pale skin tone and the scent from maple syrup coursing through my veins. lol

I am currently awaiting boarding for my flight to Seattle. Should be home in a mere 24 hours or so, including driving time.

The remaining 4 video clips all downloaded like 5:57 duration but then played a shorter length
then went to black/blank screen for the remainder of the playback.

Length of play on those 4 videoclips:
"followingbuf1" was 1:36 of 5:57
"hartebeast" was 2:55 of 5:57
"waterbuckatcamp" was 2:00 of 5:57
"wildebeast" was 3:28 of 5:57

This is not meant to look a gift horse in the mouth, just to note an unusual quirk in the downloads on my end.

My downloads were the same as yours. Walters Fault.

The videos play fine here, something must have happened during the file transfer.

Walter says it must have been a storm across the Atl;antic that caused it.

Anyway, I have uploaded the files again, please check and let me know how they work.

I get no pictures or video at all, just very large files of seemingly random text and symbols.

All videos work fine now.

I have downloaded them through another computer, and they all work.

Please remember that the videos are in 720P HD format, and the files are rather large.

If you are using a slow connection, you are not going to get very far.

Yep all is well now.
No Walterations to be found.
Using an HP 2000-427CL Notebook PC and wireless connection, they all download quickly and now have no excess blank-screen "footage."
No Walteration.

LOL...so far so good. I appreciate Hanna's concern though.

Made it home safely, very late on sunday night after a few minor flight delays and a 4 hour drive...and was greeted at home by fresh snow and near freezing temperatures!



Unfortunately, I had to go in to the office early on monday, and was like a zombie. The 10 hour time change is still kicking my butt today....always seems to be worse going home.

Day-10 sable was a no-verbal-report-from-Saeed-in-the bush day, but plenty of great photos.
I guess you were just speechless that day after watching the sable take a good hit, and refuse to fall over.
He did not go anywhere except a few steps after the first shot, but could not run off, would not fall.
He grudgingly laid down after the second long range shot, and finally gave up the ghost.
Tough guy, that sable, great trophy.
What was the range of that first shot?
About the same as for the second shot eh?

The latest batch of videos are quite entertaining.

Highlights:
Roy shoots a monster impala ram and it drops at the shot, a fairly long one,
even though he "wobbled," "too far back" on the shot placement, Roy claims.
I can only hope to wobble like that and be as fit as Roy when I am his age.

Lunch in the bush: A can of beans, a piece of biltong, and an empty pot to warm the beans in, for ambitious diners?
Apparently the chef was on holiday that day.

Hippos1: The hippos lie around in a communal siesta-bath, in muddy shallow pool at river's edge, and try to impress each other with flatulence in the bathtub, though none makes a move to bite the bubbles.
However the underwater gas exposure may be toxic enough to depigment some into a piebald, scalded appearance, seen when they wade out of the sewage.

Hippo1, Death of a Big One: Just before Boss Hippo is brained on a sand bar, a very impressive hippo fart is seen erupting in the water behind him.
Maybe Walter's fart machine could be used as a hippo call or "noise camoflage" for Walter's next attempt at Waltering a hippo.
Let Walter try the technique first.

Croc2: Big croc brained at close range when the big one tries to horn in on the circumcision/genital mutilation of hippo carcass that a smaller croc has just started.
"Bet you can't eat just one!" ... BOOM

Buffalo 3: Zoomed-in Cameraman Roy provides helpful observations to Saeed just before, and after, the shot?
"There's another one in front of him now ... BOOM ... Not that one ..."
The buffalo was dropped on first shot, neck shot?
