Seriema or "chunya". Very intelligent bird that will look you right in the eye, and then utter his amazing call, and look at you again to make sure you were duly impressed! From northern Argentina, Brazil, and vicinity. My new "favorite bird". They also have a specialized "ripping claw" like a velociraptor! Photos are from internet.

Hahaha, your new favourite bird is indeed "special".

They live (at least here) in open places but ondulated (not plain) with rocks and brushes scattered around. You don't see them everywhere or anytime, they are similar to the african secretaire bird.

The feed from lizzards, snakes, eggs, etc
They run very fast and only use their wings as a last alternative.

They make their nest in small trees a couple of metres from the ground.

It's a very "wild" bird, you don't see them near populated areas. Usually you will see two of them.

You have two kinds:
red leg chuñá and white leg chuñá.

What I really like from them is that wild spirit they have, you will see them from time to time but not much more, and also to hear their call in the middle of the "wilderness" it's special, they remembered you that they are there despite you don't see them.

They live far away any farm house, in the most forgotten part of my country, they roam free in the "cuchillas". They are special for me too. They make me remember a free childhood chasing snakes, lizards, small birds, etc at siesta hours, when the sun was high and you can boil an egg ontop those cuchilla's rocks !!

I was not allowed by then to go into "the monte" (the veldt or bush) alone, so the bigger game I can find out there at those hours where the sariemas Cool
