I think if Juan, Lorenzo, Willy, Nainital, Scruffy, billinthewild, 218 Bee, Guillermo, Afrikaander, Martin. Carlos,Reiter, Nickudu, and any other of the regulars posted their favorite 2-3 photos or stories of hunts in South America, we would have some entertainment.
I'll start, one photo at a time.

I´ll add some photos from my own archives with a proviso: that Lorenzo, half asleep from his many duties as manager of baby´s bottles and baby sitter, will not find a minor flaw and criticize the pixels, shadows, lights and what not. The truth is that I am at home nearly all day. My office is near and at this time of the year we don't have too much work so it seems I canalized my energies braking some others balls.. Roll Eyes

I will try to behave myself from now on Wink

BTW, nice axis !!!!

Lorenzo: I don´t have the slightest idea. I took the photo with a tele in the Palmar de Colón. Perhaps one of our ornithologists could identify it. The size was bigger than an "urraca". Confused

That is a urraca Azul, no doubt, but I don't know their name in english.

Their voice is very charasteristic, no doubts when you hear it.

I believe that "magpie" is the english for "urraca", but the beak on that bird doesn't look like a magpie type.

The real urraca azul is a very rare bird but this one is the common urraca but everyone here call them urraca azul because nobody knows the real one which is a very rare bird, I saw it only once.

The one posted here is very common in my country, you can not put them in a cage with other birds because they will kill them and eat them. When in captivity you fed them with cow meat and fruits.

Is not a very small bird, quite the oposite (sp?)

It seems that the bird´s name in English is "blue jay" and the scientific one "cyanocitta cristata". In Spanish "arrendajo azul" or "urraca azul". Uruguay is a beautiful country indeed, pity that is full of Uruguayans... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Hi palls
For a while I wasn’t in this forum, just busy with another issue, but any way I wanted to let you know, that the expedition I carried out with Stephen Graves, was something awesome and unique.
I can tell; that it wasn’t an easy task to accomplish, Stephen can say.
By the way Stephen my friend, I’m living part time near Dean Funes in a place called San Pedro Norte, do you remember the place you shot the brocket deer? Close to that spot.
Here is a wonderful place and I’m enjoying hunting from time to time, viscachas (as we hunted across the river with the tobas) as well I’m shooting brocket and Russian boar, peccary is not so easy, but we try as well.
Well my friend, you are welcome to come and visit me in my new place any time you wish, and the proposal is good time drinking beer, wine, real girls and why not hunting.
PS. Bring your gold detector, you know of what I’m speaking about, don’t you?

The photos are all so beautiful and those of Lorenzo taken in Uruguay makes me want to visit. I can just imagine how nice it would be to sit out under that palapa along the water witha good whisky and a fine puro. And lean back, enjoying the taste, the smoke, the ambiance of the place, and let the world go on by.

Steve: like you well guessed, the Gladiador was a halfbreed, half dogo and half greyhound. He was a gift, a nomadic Native American who lives mainly as a hunter-gatherer near Algarrobo del Aguila in the west of La Pampa Province gave him to me. This place it´s most unusual, because there two rivers meet: the Atuel and the Chadileuvu. Sometimes these waters join and give birth to a delta.

Perhaps in these swamps you may find the biggest hogs in Argentina. They feed with gusto of stranded fish when the waters disappear.
The native hunters use the best tools that they have at hand, thus they mix the dogos with the greyhounds looking for a lighter dog, able to run in these very special kind of terrain.

The Gladiador was also known as "Indio" due to his origin and he had a white coat like his father and grey ears like his mother. Besides being a very brave and intelligent fighter he had another unique and distinctive knowledge: he climbed trees and I´ve seen him in a branch at 4 meters. Of course, this was very useful when pursuing pumas.
He died hunting, after sensing a hog he jumped from the pickup and fought the tusker alone, losing his life because the hog sliced his throat.

From a hunter to another, a tear and a salute to him.
I´ll try to post some pictures of that area afterwards.

First is first: To Nainital: my pet little dog is a Teckel "pelo duro", her name is Lola and is aged 8 months. Her parents were imported to Argentina the past March by a Spanish couple who come every year for hunting and gave her as a gift to a colleague who lives in Neuquen. She has a nice pedigree and a certificate in Germany, I hope to train her properly for following blood trails. Mi good friend Juan Carlos Wagner has one of her sisters and like a good German will be her teacher in the field.
Here is a picture:

To Guillermo Ämestoy: Life is stranger than fiction and that dog always tried to climb trees... Big Grin
