as well as european boar and peccary?

My son and I are looking into an Argentina hunt for those species, with the emphasis on water buff and the european boar. I looked into it 3-4 yrs. ago, but we went to South Africa on a plains game hunt last summer, in July. If we do this hunt, it will most likely be in July/Aug. of 2010. Things change as years pass, so am looking for updated info on hunting these species. Any current info would be helpful. Thanks.

Wild boar, sus scrofa, is find in a couple of provinces but the best places must be La Pampa and San Luis provinces, no peccary there.

You have water buffs in La Pampa province also but not too wild, they have been released there for hunting purpose. So you will not have both species together in a same place.

Maybe in Santiago del Estero, Corrientes, or Chaco provinces you will find buffs and some kind of feral pigs. In Santiago del Estero you may have peccary also.

I think you will find wilder waterbuffs further north. Keep in mind that waterbuffs are only really wild in some parts of Brazil but hunting is not allowed there.

In some places of Argentina if they have enough hunting preassure they can be wilder, but remember that they must get vaccinated against foot and mouth desease once a year.

I'm not bashing water buff hunting in Argentina, it can be very sportive, but it will make a big difference the place where you hunt them, in some places they can be tame as an angus cow and in other they will run for cover as soon they see you.

For me, in my humble opinion, for someone coming from far away Argentina is a prime destination for:

red stags
wild boars
brocket deer
peccary
puma
doves
ducks
geese
partdrige
black buck
capibara
guanaco
axis deer
fallow deer

All those four horned sheeps, scotish sheep, etc are pure BS, just put and take domestic animals used to take away money from gringos.

Some years ago there was a very sportive hunt for feral goats in Sierra de la Ventana (Bs As Province) but I don't know what have happened with those populations in these days..

My 2 cts and I hope my argentinian friends understand what I am trying to say and don't take offense of my words.

Lorenzo: you forgot the most dangerous game of them all. That is wild cattle in the vinal areas in Salta and the South. Some of these have horns like the Masai and charge on sight.Fortunately not much people pursues them inside the vinal.I´ve been near Galpón in Orán and the gauchos there had their faces tattoed by the thorny branches.
A most demanding hunt and not for everyone. Eeker

Corrientes would be a province where you can ride hoseback for hours without seeing a fence, and find buffalo in small herds. Riding with the gauchos, seeing capybara, rheas, caiman, storks, wild hogs, etc was a great trip for me.
These South American buff are different breeds of River Milch buffaloes. Some are not any wilder than the cattle they frequently herd with, but some are. The Swamp buffalo of Australia is wilder and more athletic, but those also are herded up and vaccinated on some ranches, then sold to hunting-ranches. anywhere buffalo are close to cattle, there will be a law requiring vaccination, but even getting all the cattle vaccinated is an impossibility on some huge ranches in Argentina and in Australia. In South Africa, they vaccinate Cape buffalo--that has to be a lot of fun! ]Few stock fences will hold a big bull buffalo of any kind that wants to leave.
