I just tried to enter an answer to Crusher on the thread and got some strange answer to my post and then the whole thing vaporized. I have asked Jeffe to see if he can resurect the thread.

If not I will repost the pictures again along with the instructions. I have a list of those people who have sent money and will post it on here or if they wish to remain anonymous I will do it with initials and their city of residence. However you wish. The numbers will be assigned to the names and the drawing will be held after the magic number of 400 is reached.

Chic, every day we learn a NEW feature of the EVE software.

In an effort to increase distribution of the thread one of our moderators featured it across the whole forum.

It appeared in some forums where it was clearly off topic so he unfeatured it there.

Then we decided we'd clean it up in a few forums and we discovered once you feature the same thread across many forums, if you do anything to one of the threads it changes all of them.

You got it, deleting it where it didn't belong took it into cyber heaven.

There is no recall function in EVE...something they need to fix.

Sorry, but a multitude of good intentions turned out bad.

After some nasty computer problems and some frantic work load obligations I am back to repost the dialog and photos for this raffle.

The Ottmar Rifle was started over 5 years ago when I was helping Maurice with the sale of his shop. At one point in time, he handed me what was his last project and asked me to sell it as is. It was a Peruvian Mauser 98 chambered in 6mm Remington and partially inletted into an incredible blank of Turkish walnut. He wanted $1200 for it. After taking it home, I got to thinking and called him to see if he would allow me to finish the gun so he would get more money for it. He graciously agreed. After the word got out, a number of his gummaker friends requested that they help with the project.

Initially Ray Price was going to do the checkering on the stock but unfortunately Ray passed away to cancer before the time came for him to do the work. I remember the day when he told me apologetically that he would not be able to due it due to his health.

The rifle is now complete and the list of people that contributed is as follows. I finished the inletting, shaping and applied the finish on the stock and it was checkered by Gary Goudy stepped in for Ray and checkered the gun. I fit a leather covered pad to the stock.

Mark Stratton built a set of custom scope bases for the Talley scope rings that were donated by Gary Turner of Talley Manufacturing. The Leupold Vari X-III 1 3/4 to 6 scope was donated by Leupold and Stevens.

The three position safey was donated by Jim Wisner, Precise Metalsmithing Enterprising. The safety was fit to the rifle by Jim Dubell, who also built a lever release and hinged the floor plate of the original military bottom metal. The bow of the bottom metal had been given a wonderful shape by the hands of Maurice.

Ted Blackburn donated a trigger for the rifle and had wanted to donate bottom metal but we wanted to keep as much of Maurice work in place on the final product.

Roger Kehr did the engraving on the rifle. That was so very fitting as he and Maurice were great friends and had collaborated on a number of wonderful rifles over the years. I rust blued the rifle with Gun Goddess that I acquired from Maurice.

The rifle will be raffled off using a system that takes the numbers from the stock market closing. We will limit the ticket sales to 400. The first day of the "drawing" will determine with set of 100 tickets, 0 to 99, 100 to 199, 200 to 299 and 300 to 399. The second day will determine the tens place on the ticket and the last day will determine the ones digit.

The price of the tickets will be $25 or a single ticket or 5 for $100. Please send a check or money order made out to Monika Ottmar and send it in care of Chic Worthing at 3020 Conarty Road, Malaga WA 98828.

Monika is Maurice's widow and all the proceeds will be going to her.

Anyone is allowed to submit for tickets. If you are from out of the United States, I will work with you to export the rifle but any additional expense for the exportation and duty will be paid by the winner of the rifle.

Now for some eye candy of the rifle.

This photo, given the shirt style was probably taken in the 70's. I just wanted any of you that had not had the rare priveledge of meeting Maurice, to at least be able to see what he looked like in the prime of his life.

Here is the list of those who have sent money or made payments by paypal for tickets as of 1/19/2008. I will update this as time goes on. I am departing on a pheasant scaring and occasional 7 day shooting trip to North and South Dakota on Thursday and when I return I will then be gone on for about 7 more days looking for my elusive Washington moose so I will be out of contact for a while. Keep the money coming in.

IMPORTANT: If you would like to use paypal, my email for my account is cworthing@charter.net and PLEASE DO NOT MENTION THE WORD RIFLE, REFER TO IT AS OTTMAR RAFFLE.

A life perhaps? You have nothing better to do than check Chic's math? I'm not even going to bother to add things up because in the end it will be right. Cut the man some slack, he is a busy person after all.

The tickets are $25 each, or 5 for 100, so net, 5@20.

Good catch.

Rem721 I never said it would not be right at the end and did not try to take any slack from Chic. I thought it was actually giving him a hand so that when he got to the end he would not have this mistake to go find when things did not add up.

Could you give out some specs on the gun, i.e. caliber, weight, etc.?

The rifle is chambered in 6mm Remington. That was one of the choices that Maurice made on the gun before I took it in hand. I will get you a weight and update this.

Sorry I took so long to get this back up but I have been busy with fun things. Well most of them fun .... a week in South Dakota hunting pheasants and almost 3 weeks (one at a time) hunting moose in Washington. I drew a very hard to get once in a lifetime tag and really had a great time. Okay getting bucked off a friends horse and messing up my hip and leg was not fun but the hunt was great. Saw over 50 moose and a great bull but settled on a cow on the last day.

Okay back to the rifle. we are about one third of the way to the 400 tickets. That is the upper end but if it drags on too much I may have to cut it off earlier. I will do it at an even 100 tickets to keep the odds the same for everyone. Hopefully we can get enough response to meet the original goal.

i registered a long time ago, but honestly only registered to watch the t-rex kick the crap out of people. recently i discovered what i have been missing, and i am not real happy with myself. oh well, live and learn. if the raffle is still going on i would like to buy a couple tickets to help out. i missed the original thread on this rifle, but have read this one and the silver lining rifle, and it is really an unbelievable thing to see people coming together like this.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Chic,
I will take 5 of the tickets. What a gorgeous rifle!! I am on the other side of the world right now but will get a check in the mail by Monday if that is acceptable.
Thanks,

Hi Bruce, great to hear from you again. I am on for lunch next time you are up my way. Monday will be just fine. I hope the other side of the world you are on is a bit warmer, unless you are skiing and want it cold.

Chic,

Excuse me if this has been covered but do we receive actual tickets or are we assigned numbers?

How many more do we need to reach 400?

Thanks, Rob

Rob,
I will assign a number to you here on this web site and you will not receive a paper copy. The number will be picked by using the stock market closing numbers for three days. I was hoping for 400 tickets sold but now I am looking at 300 unless the sales picks up some steam. At present I am looking at ending near Feb 15. It is beneficial to have an full 100 number of tickets, eg. 200, 300 or 400. In that way there are not any gaps in the drawing. A small number of gaps (non assigned numbers), spread among all the 100's, can work okay but it may require an additional day if the winning # happened to hit the gap. I hope I am not confusing anyone.

Let me explain further (or confuse more). If we ended up selling 297 tickets, I would assign 99 to each 100 group and there would be a non assigned number that may win. In that case we would go on one more day and hopefully we would have a winner.
