I just measure the two rough stocks I have with a Ebony tip. 1.5" both ways just covers with about 1/8" up & down. So measure 4 times and cut once.

As usual just my $.02

I like to make them longer if the forend is longer, but 2" is the longest i have made. 1.5 is the shortest, and I really do not like them shorter.
