Mauser takedown project

I have been working on this since they locked me up, (virus protection?)
It started from a donor 93 small ring Mauser action, used a new Howa 7.62 x 39 barrel and a NOS Fagen stock
Biggest problem was extending the extractor hook and modifying the follower to feed the shorter cartridge.
Now waiting for scope bases

Looks like a fun project, and good use of a 1916 small ring. What kind of scope bases do plan to use, and will you keep the standard Mauser safety?

I did. No pics. Communication failures are always the responsibility of the sending end.

Finally got the whole thing finished, adding it all up I have about $175 in the whole project as a lot of it came from parts that have been hanging around the shop. The most money was the purchase of the Timney safety. This started out as something to do to pass the time while waiting for parts and being cooped up cause of the virus.
anyhow the finished project.

Looks from your pic that the barrel is fully threaded with a set screw divot. So you screw the barrel in and line up the divot and lock in with the set screw? Did you incorporate a spacer in the mag? How did you alter the follower? Seems like you should be able to get 5 down with the smaller case. Please post how it shoots! Great work!

Yes the screw locks the barrel with an index hole in the thread.
I machined an aluminum block
to take up the space behind the follower out of an AR 7.62 magazine and JB welded it to the rear of the magazine well it allows the cartridges to center on the follower. I had to shorten the legs of the follower and shortened the spring to fit. I can get four down as it is.
The follower needs some minor adjustment on the sides to allow it to slide with out binding. It is plastic material. The nice thing is there is no modifications to the action, just the follower and adding .040 to the extractor hook to allow it to index on the smaller base. It will hold the case and eject off the standard ejector.
I hope to get out to shoot it but all the ranges and forest are closed to extreme fire danger but it has rained in July in the past so there is hope to get out soon.
