Is this conversion practicle?

Some I know has shot out the barrel of his and wants to sell for what I consider a good price.
The action is in good shape and in a quality stock but would need to have a barrel swap and converted to CRF.

Is the STW a candidate for this conversion?

a remington 700 can not (sure, with enough time and money and cubic dollars)be converted to CRF.. but it can have an extractor added.

a RUM related action would be a slightly better starting point, but yeah, it could done.

and would probably feed better than most..

though a 416 remington is would only be a rebarrel away

I second jeffe's idea about the 416 Rem, FWIW.

If a person gave in on the CRF requirement and was willing to use the RUM rebated rim then the conversion to 404 Jeffery can go smoothly.

I did this with my MRC action conversion. Actually instead of using RUM cases I turned the 404 Jeffery case rims to .531 diameter on the lathe so I didn't have to open the bolt face.....One never knows.....I might want to rebarrel this thing to 470 Capstick or 458 Lott someday and that bolt face might come in handy.

Since we're discussing .404 sized cases, and since I don't know how to start a thread yet, who can chamber a barrel for (since it's a proprietary cartidge) a 7mm Dakota on a Mauser Werke 98. I will have to supply a drop box magazine and have the rails opened. I should probably just go with the 7mm Weatherby, but I'm trying to get the most umphh in a standard length case.
