This winter I am going to try to bring a Winchester M75 Sporting back to life. It has a kids target stock on it now and it has not been used for a long time. I want a 22 with a clip magazine and I might as well try this one. Needless to say I almost bought a new CZ 17 HMR.

The next project will be to either get a Win. M88 grouping or sell it. At present it's good for 2 MOA at best. I might do the crown as it has a suspicious look to it.

Here is a pic. of the M75's stock. Its all that I have right now. I have to get the rest of it back from my son.

I have three pedestrian projects in process:

1) A Parker-Hale Mauser action being made into a practical .458 AR. Douglas barrel is build, chambered, headspaced, and test fired. Has a Bold trigger with side safety and a Ruger band front sight. Is fitted with a LEUPOLD 2.5X Compact in Leupold QRW rings. Working on the rails now. Should be blued and in the stock by the end of January. Will have a quarter rib added during the year.

2) A VZ.24 action being made into a practical 9,3x62. Will be barreled by Douglas. Has a Timney trigger and a Timney Beuhler style safety. Will be drilled and tapped for scope. Will have a Ruger band front sight and a quarter rib.

3) For small game I'm starting with a new SS Ruger 10/22. Will restock and crown or replace the barrel to improve accuracy as necessary.

These fellas won't be the works of art that some can afford, but they'll be good working guns for field use.

Finish the 416 Taylor Mark X project - still need sights, bluing and a bit more lapping on the A&B barrel.

Finish the 6BR on the 98/22 action, still trying to decide on a stock - metal work is done.

Thinking about a .257 Weatherby on an Mark X, or maybe .257 WSM(wonder if I could get it to feed?).

Triggers on 3 very different AR's. A 458 SOCOM, a Colt Accurized Rifle, and a Colt Match Target.

Refinish a Valmet AK Copy

Build a competent .17 HMR starting with a Savage

Put 11 deg. target crowns on everything I own.

And then... Stop cutting bait and GO FISH. (I mean shoot more).

my goal is to finish at least one of my personal projects that has been in the process of being built since the '90s. I figure in another 10 years or so I will have them all finished and can then start on personal guns that I started during the '00s.

I am writing off those that I started during the '80s-sold some, robbed parts off others, and even lost one somewhere.

I have three Mausers that I need to finish. One has a magnum bolt face that I cannot make my mind up on caliber (300WM or 338WM. The other is now a 375JRS Mag. that I want to turn into a 375H&H or 300H&H. And I have another Mauser that I want to build like an original Oberndorf sporter and I cannot decide on a caliber for it, 7x57, 8x57 or 9.3x62. Problem is, I don't NEED any of them as I alread have calibers or similar calibers that I am using now. I am sure you know the problem firsthand.

A zischang Borchardt (Sharps 1878) is getting closer to completion. It will be competitive before spring.

Also in the hopper is a Gibbs-style long range muzzleloader with a false muzzle. That may not be done until the close of the coming year, but it will get there.

I have three VZ-24 projects to finish

Two barreled actions are chambered in 6 mm Rem and 280 Rem...one more coming up will be a 338-06 or a 375 Ruger...not sure yet.

These and a couple more will keep me out of trouble for a bit.

Jimmy did you know I have a G33/40 with a 7x57 barrel on it? That is a project I must get to sometime soon. I will need to get the barrel turned down it is much to heavy now. I see it as a nice lightweight deer rifle with a fixed 4 power on it.

For me is building a 9.3x62 on a BRNO action with a 20" barrel I picked up. I already have the trigger, shroud (with safety) bottom metal. hmmm, just got to turn it in and find some good irons for it.

Vapodog, noticed you have 3 stocks and 2 actions (shown), wanna get rid of one? <grins>

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

1. Finish the shop
2. 9.3 x 57, 9.3 x 62, 9.3 x 70EM, 8 x 68(S), 6.5 x 68(S), .366 H&H (9.3 H&H), 6.5 x 55 SE, 7 x 64 Br, 6.5 x 57, 7 x 57. All the work will be done assembly line style. There will be just two styles of stocks, one for the light recoiling rounds, another for the heavier recoiling rounds. These will all be test mules for ammunition development. Some will be switch barrel rigs. Will be burning a lot of midnight oil!!!!

What a great bunch of guys on this site. I didn't even know this world existed three years ago. Now I have some projects that will be central to the rest of my life.

1. .338-06 half octagon half round barrel, full intergral rib. Double sqaure bridge mauser action W/ 3-position safety at Mark Strattons waiting it's turn in line.

2. .223 Rem on a mini mauser with tons of custom work. Waiting at Shane Thompsons, after which I'll set in a beautuful petite little stock W/ a skeleton grip and buttplate.

3. This is the one I'm most excited about. 7X57 on a smallring mexican 1910 M98. Half octgon half round barrel with all the bells and whistles built by Mark Stratton. Sitting at Chic Worthings waiting to be stocked. Mark did a super job on it, I have the most beautiful stock blank known to man and we know what Chic's work looks like Wink

I think most of this stuff was on the same type thread last year animal but I have faith it's gonna happen this year. Smiler

Well I got the rifle back from my son and it's in excellent shape only it seems my late dad made a special trigger guard up for the junior size marksmans stock and the special special trigger quard that says "M75 Sporting" or something is missing!

I will have to turn the house upside down. Don't have much hope for this one. Grrr.

Having my first two custom rifles built this year by Waffenfabrik Hein. Do not have all the specs just yet, hope to detail all that out while in Dallas....here is what I am thinking.

A 404 Jeffery and a 375 H&H.

1) Waffenfabrik Mauser Action, Hein Double Square Bridge with the Talley Set-up machined in the Bridge. Four down + 1
2) 23 to 25 inch barrels, probably quarter rib on the 404 w/banded front sight and banded front and rear sights on the 375. Barrel Band swivels.
3) Slow rust blued.
4) Turkish Walnut stocked with spare syn. stocks.
5) Possibly some very minor engraving, not sure.

Hopefully these these rifles will come in at 9 lbs or so fully loaded and scoped.

I have two more very nice Turkish Walnut Blanks that I am thinking of building a 300 H&H and 7x57. My hope is set of four rifles to hunt the world with....

Ideas and thoughts are always welcome.

Sounds like me except I can't afford to stop working! Actually the .357 SIG cylinder for my 4 cylinder Blackhawk (I have the factory .357 Mag. and a custom .357/44 Bain & Davis made off the 9mm factory one) is ready so now I just need another 9mm cylinder and a fancy case to finish that project. I am also planning on lightly modifing a CZ550 .357 H&H (better sights, Wisner's floorplate, maybe another bolt handle), and I want to build a suppressed bolt action to "play" with, its looking like a 300 Whisper or 7.62x39 right now. Of course the fact I am getting married in July will not help cash flow this year!

Let´s see...I´ve spent a lot of money on guns this year so I should cool it a bit...but

1) Making a rook rifle out of my Martini action -still contemplating caliber.

2) Find components and data for the Win 25-20 SS

3) Learn to load for and shoot the 8x68S before I leave for SA in April.

Now let´s hope I don´t find an original 8x64 or a 9.3x64 ´cause then my plan will be thrown off course.

A Mexican w/double square bridge, Mark Stratton half octagon Shilen barrel in 7x57, and a very nice piece of wood from Roger Vardy. David Christman is doing this one.
Redoing the stock on a 1909 Argentine in 284 and rustblue. This was a $300 gunshow purchase that is going to be a real steal. David Christman is doing the work. It should be done in a couple weeks.
Banner Mauser with help from Mark Stratton, David Christman, Jim Dubell, and Jim Kobe. It will be a 9.3x62 on an old German barrel that was bored and rifled by Mr. Dubell. The barrel has a full rib. I may have to make the iron sights if I can't find something to fit the existing dovetail. I will do the chambering and plan to have claw mounts. Roger Vardy had a piece of very beautiful wood that has a couple flaws that was too cheap.
I am going to try a reverse taper barrel on my 10.5 BR rifle with a tuner on it.
I will also work on a few mods to my joystick rest top that I sell to Br and Fclass shooters.
I have a full plate.

I guess this deals with ongoing projetcts.... In that case I have projects going on in two categories:

Factory rifles: a Rem M700 VLS in .223 Rem.. Used to shoot really well, but since we cut the barrel from 26 to 22", accuracy just fell apart. Jewell trigger has been back to the factory and has supposedly been returned in a state where a perfect 1 lbs pull with no creep and no over travel is possible. Next is free floating the barrel and see whether a bedding job is necessary.

In addition to that, there is a Sako A1 in .222 Rem with a factory target trigger waiting for a scope back from Leupold. Main tube was bent, and Leupold was to fix for about $80, or so. Other than that the rifle looked pretty solid when I shot it last - August 2006, or so.

Custom rifles: a Stiller Predator with a Krieger tube in .308 Win (custom chamber) is waiting for a Serengeti Hunter (Sako style) stock. It took a while to get the bottom metal, but I believe Williams came through with their new design in the end. We needed that new setup to accommodate the Jewell trigger - I hope it will be better than my last two - and now that the bottom metal is in, it should be possible to start the inletting work. Just a few months from now, one would hope...

Further out, there is M1999 in 7x57 waiting for barrel, trigger and stock. But I guess that will be a while yet...

- mike

my old FN higgins 30,06. It is being reblued at the moment. As soon as its done I will decide on the stock.
Its a nice light 22 inch acurate rifle, so I am thinking I might go synthetick.
mabye send it to Hi tech to be fit and finished.
I prefer wood but I like to have a coupe syntheticks around for harsh conditions.

Two current projects: (1) a .375 H&H on a Sako action that Jim Kobe is doing for me - the barreled action with sights is complete, and Jim has the blank & will do the stock later this new year; and (2) a .404J on a 1935 Brazilian Oberndorf action with a nice piece of Chiron,Inc. wood (waiting for a reamer that's ordered). Also waiting for Blackburn bottom metal that Ted said would arrive in February. A couple other rifles ordered and will be received when completed - .45-90 Sharps & a Searcy 450/400 - both ordered last year in Dallas.

I hope to finish my Montana 99 in 25-284 by finally taking the time to checker it. Then on to finish it's big brother in 416 Remington. All I need to do to that one is get the bottom metal from Blackburn (been waiting 11 months now), install sights, make as stock, etc., etc. Just might have it finished for the trip to Africa this year...but maybe not.

Projects in the middle of? Savage striker action, barrels (yep barrels) in .22BR, .243, and 6x.284 with 1-8" twist. Stock is a Choate sniper severely reworked and reshaped, but not yet finished and painted.

Ruger 10/22 .22WMR; heavy Green Mountain barrel; stock is factory, but epoxied-on comb and side pieces to make wider forend. When shaping is finished, painting in some far out design, then after prairie dogs!
