Hey Todd. Not all Fords are created equal. We've had Fords that we bought new and got 100,000 miles with less than 1,000 in repairs nmaely Escort and Ranger. For newer models, friends and neighbors are on their second and third Fords in the same model. Best models over the last 10 years plus seem to be the Escape & Edge. Mustangs and Explorers were spotty. I bought a new F150 XL in 2008 and that thing shook like Don Knotts in Andy of Mayberry. Cheap or not shouldn't have happened. Sold it 9 months later. Point being, not all Fords are created equal.

BTW, Mecedes-Benz's can be quite dependable and have been for a dozen or so years. Yet C.R. and the like barely even notice them and the better Ford models OR are biased. I think the latter.

So, what do you drive on a daily basis Mr. Williams?

Well, it could have been worse. He could have bought a dodge Smiler

I will gladly stick with my 2012 Ford F-350 diesel (yeah, a little off-topic). 180,000 miles, over 20 MPG on the highway, and never any problems.

Currently driving a Ram 2500 Cummins 4x4. 2 years old with 82,000 miles and no trouble so far. And I pull a pretty heavy trailer most of the time.

I bought this RAM after driving a 2004 Dodge Cummins 4x4 to 453,000 miles with less than $10,000 spent on repairs over the 17 year period I owned it.

I'll take Dodge / Ram over Ford any day, and twice on Sunday. Have had several. Never had issues with them, including a 2002 Dodge Viper.

Also driven a number of Chevy's. Couple of Trucks, Camaro, couple of Vett's, and a Suburban. No real problems with any of those.

5 Fords, starting with an F150 in 1977. All 5 have been pieces of shit. Always broken down, leave you stranded in a heartbeat. I can't count the miles I've walked going for help from a broken down Ford. That's back before cell phones of course. And all of those POS Fords had less than 50,000 miles when I got rid of them.

Funny thing about Fords on AR, the new owner comes on singing their praises. Sometime around 8 months later, the same owner comes on telling us all about their experiences with them breaking down and not being able to get them fixed at the dealerships. This thread is no different. Leaky roof that several trips to the dealer couldn't repair. I say that's typical for the blue oval.

Cool

If Ford’s are so bad, why has the F150 been the best selling vehicle in the US for the last 50 years?? popcorn

That’s all great Todd but how much money have you given your Chiropractor?

Thanks for the spiel Todd. Nothing like first hand experience. Guess it's a crapshoot with Fords these days assuming your experiences were recent.

No recent experience with Fords. It took 5 consecutive lemons. I'm a slow learner, but I did learn.

Jerry, I suspect a large part of that fact is due to Ford's Fleet sales and marketing. Ford reigns King in the fleet vehicle world. They are disposable vehicles IMHO and about 75,000 to 125,000 miles being all they are good for before repairs start to become unmanageable. Fleet buyers rotate every couple of years anyway.

The F150 has one of the nicest interiors so that has a lot to do with it as well. It's just been my experience that Fords are problematic, much more so than other brands I've owned. I'm just done with them for good.

But one last shot at it, why would someone pay more than original MSRP for a used Bronco with known leaky roof issues that the dealer couldn't resolve? I don't get it.

I don’t get it either. I would never pay over MSRP for ANY vehicle. And other than my current F 150, which I’ve had for 7 years but only has 59,000 miles, I’ve never kept a truck much beyond when the warranty ran out…….

Jerry,

You are correct, but I guess it’s been 8 years since I bought my 2006 4Runner. Notice the decade missing. It’s awesome.

It replaced a 1999 Suburban with that Toyota. I drove that until it died.

However USA proud I am, I have seen jap trucks survive without rattles.

The local Ford dealership where I bought my truck received 2 Bronco today so supply may be loosening.

Looked at a new Bronco in person last week. Even though I am a Ford guy my opinion was it is ugly. Wife agreed which surprised me, lol. The Bronco reminded me of the old International Scout.
Placed an order for a 4 door Wrangler instead. Willys model, comes stock with 4:10 gears, 33 inch tires, rear locker, etc. I went with the V6 and 8 speed auto since the manual is on hold. Plus the dealer ordered it for 7% off invoice. Now I just hope it will actually be built and delivered before the end of the this year.
