Went to the canine rescue last week and found this guy. He lets me know every day how happy he is to have a home. Don't know yet how he reacts to gunfire, but will soon.

But the house cat has him buffaloed

Steve,

Good looking dog. Tiny seems to be keeping him at bay.
My last 3 dogs have been rescues, also. Here is Xerxes, whom we rescued last September. Had been looking for a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog for 2 years and was buggered over twice on the purchase by breeders, so we went back to a rescue. He's a great dog.

Yeah, "appreciates a home" . . .

Ginger was a pregnant stray, adopted by a Coast Guard family who got transfered and had to give her up, then a home with a pack of dogs and she's not a "pack dog." Then a home where the owner would lock Ginger in the garage all day while she was at work.

Now she's a working ADA Service Dog for me. One-on-one relationship, she gets full-time attention, and gives it back. Red Heeler mix, I think some German Shepherd. Lots of energy, loyal, affectionate, smart as hell, funny too. Hell of a nose. Good around strangers, kids, cats, livestock, even deer.

Total "babe magnet" -- speaking of helping me out. Big Grin

Unless you're workin' on a show dog, or some sort of field trials, adoption is the way to go.

Good luck with your dog Steve.

Our Gus (on the stair) which also came from a shelter looks like he could be related to yours.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

What a great thread! We are talking to Airedale Rescue to get an Airdale to replace Laddie. The house seems empty without him. The dog won't replace him entirely, just fill some of the space created by his absence.
