It was moved to the Lever Action forum even though we got beyond that endless argument and into something more interesting and more pertinent.

Aha - I now see by clicking on the link who hijacked the thread - so I'll pose the requested question as a topic here.

This is over my head-what's more interesting than big game hunting with a big game caliber cartridge? I'm new so cut me some slack please. this isn't about stereotyping and labels and such is it?

For a new guy you sure have an interesting selection of old threads to bring up. Been lurking a long time?

No. Don't take this wrong but people have a bad habit of showing up with new names. Not that we are suspicious but we have had more than our share of trolls in the past.

Welcome in any event.

Let me clarify something -- lurking just means reading without joining. It is not intended to have a negative connotation.

Exactly where it belongs.

I don't get here often. When I do I come to the African hunting forum because it is all mostly new to me. I am very happy with the type of hunting I do but respect true hunting skill and real hunting from anyone anywhere. I am certainly not a troll as I am easily ID'd anywhere I hang my hat.
I do have the propensity to voice my opinion when it is based on fact and not ignorance, popularity, stereotyping, and convienient labeling. but it is for reasons of understanding that I care of such things and when I am wrong I hope it is an honest mistake rather than an agenda biased one. Either way though, I likely will recognize it and change my thinking in accordance with good information.
My question here is why the apparent determination to move a lever rifle off this forum and not the singles, doubles, bolts, and other rifles? Are there rules I have missed as to what are acceptable actions for this forum? Or is there just a notion by some that certain ones are acceptable for discussion. I would like to get past this but I did say I am easily alerted to conscience bias. By the way, I don't normally proof read my posts but if spelling and grammer are an issue I will do so. thanks

JLawrence, one of the quicksand and muck issues on AR is the use of the 45-70 (especially the Marlin LA rifles) for DG and it gets beaten to death many times and so badly that many posters are dearly sick of the question.

Personally I think it's funny because mostly I can ignore it except to glance at it to see how the arguement is faring.

IMO you did nothing wrong and I seriously doubt that there is any troubled souls because of it. It's just one of the very few ways to ruffle feathers on this secretary's bird. Also, the controlled round feed, Remington bolt handles, and a very few other topics to be used in other forums. These issues are extemely used and seen as burdoning the African forum which is the main focus of AR.

You had no way of knowing so forget it....no one is horribly offended by it.

berger...you are in africa...shoot every kind of animal there, post pics and there is not much that needs to be said. if you need help with the best bullets just ask! you can be the 45-70 spokesperson. be sure to have a buddy with a videocamera and depending on the situation a buddy with a videocamera and a stopping gun. post the story in the african hunting reports board. the 45-70 to most here is like an obnoxious drunk hick uncle that comes over at dinner parties when you are trying to impress friends. so post pics and tell stories and just add 45-70 at the end to piss'em off!

to most here hunting has to do more with being big and bad or the romance of a bygone era so dont be offended just understand that this is kinda like a countryclub that has a lot of unspoken rules. most here are cool and nice but it is what it is. welcome.

what game have you shot with a 45-70?
what was the affect?

Yes, it vanished - because better men than you went out to the graveyard and drove a stake through the heart of the 45-70 vampire! Smiler
