Boys I am back a day early. Got my buff then came down with the crud that is going around. Had a great time. I have tons of info to post and pics after I get rested up. What I can tell you is 1. I was told by the gent that guided me that it was the most impressive performance by any rifle and load that he has guided on these critters. 2. Jae Bok Youngs bullets are the stuff. 3. My speculation based on the performance in the ballistic buff was right on the money. The 420gr did exactly what the ballistic buff said it should do. 4. I won the award for largest gut pile of the weekend. 5. My buffalo was 1800lbs. 6. The owe you money look can apply to preserve raised water buff as well as cape buff. more later.

I am back. The buffalo was shot at 50 yards after chasing them around for 4 hours from our first contact. I had to shoot it on the move. The front leg towards me was about as far back as it could go during walking when the bullet struck it. The bullet punched through the hide, broke the leg bone, entered the rib cage, destroyed the front end of the lungs, exited the rib cage then entered the front shoulder doing enough damage to stop the buff from walking. It would stand but the leg wouldn't go. I then eased up about 25 yards away and put one right through the heart. The blood stream came out like a fire hose. The buff began to stagger then went down. The second bullet after going through the heart and lungs exited the ribs and lodged in the hide on the off side. I couldn't be more pleased with the perfromace of the gun and load. reflex264

Reflex: Glad you are on the mend. What was your load and velocity with the JBY bullet? Have you had a chance to chaw on a little o' that buff yet? There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

You must not have heard that a 45-70 won't kill anything that big, huh?

I hunted at Widerness Lodge in TN. From the time we first got close to them until I finally pulled the trigger was 4 hours. The JBY 420gr was traveling 1785fps at the muzzle. The first bullet broke the front leg (buff was walking and leg was in the extreme rear part of its motion) then took the front of both lungs out. The bullet exited the ribs and did enough damage to the other front so that the buff couln't run. This shot was taken right at 50 yards. I walked up about 25 yards and shot it through the heart. A 3/4" stream of blood poured from the buffalo. It was a matter of 30 seconds or so till it was on the ground. The second buillet was recovered imbedded in the off side hide. The forst bullet was removed from the shoulder during processing. Bullet performance was absolutely perfect. I will post pics of the bullets later. We ate rib eye from the buff last night. It was very good. I filled up a brand new 17CF freezer and about 150lbs left over went into out chest freezer. Needless to say we will eat buff for a while! reflex264

bullet # 1 broke the leg bone and got the front of the lungs before lodging in the offside shoulder. bullet # 2 took out the heart and lungs and lodged under the offside skin, actualy in the skin. bullet # 3 is an unfired 420gr Crater

sounds like you did the right thing on letting the meat age for a week before packaging. That stuff can be unchewable if not aged. Steve "He wins the most, who honour saves. Success is not the test." That is exactly what they told me. It was certainly worth it. We just ate some burgers. They were good as well. The steaks are touchy to cook but I have patience. While not black angus they were actualy pretty tender. reflex264
