In looking for other ways to post photos, I came across a service that claims to give you a permanent link for photos that you've stored in Google photos.

Short article here:
https://www.labnol.org/interne...os-in-website/29194/

And the service is here:
https://ctrlq.org/google/photos

Here's my test image:

I noticed that it can be resized by manually editing the link; the last part was "=w2400"; I manually changed that to "=w800" and the picture was resized.

I'll leave this up and see if the link is persistent.

I'm just doing a quick test as I use Google Photos for cloud storage and am hesitant to have to use another platform.

Hmmm, well that seemed not to have worked...

I've only been using postimages.org for sometime (the original test of the Google photo embed service was four and a half years ago). It appears to still be working though:

What I did - when you get to the service itself (now at https://www.labnol.org/embed/google/photos/ ) :
(1) Paste in the google photos link;
(2) choose not a robot
(3) press the Generate Embed Code button
(4) copy the direct image link.
(5) in the accurate reloading message editor, select the image icon and paste in the direct image link
(6) Important: Edit the last part of the image link from "w2400" to something like "w800" - that last number is the width of the image in pixels, so if the photos are high resolution in Google, and you leave the high resolution value, it causes problems reading the post. I changed it to w800 and you can see the result.

I hope this helps.

I'm not sure what happened with the photo on the original post; I may have deleted it from Google. Hard to be sure.

Thanks, that worked. I'm going to try the postimages.org too... nope, it's not accepting the link on the 'upload via URL'... but anyway, you've given me a solution, thanks!

Enjoyed your Iceland and Swedish moose reports by the way... the stalking and calling appeals more to me than the usual way using a dog to bring them in.

Glad that worked; I see the URL for the service has changed to: https://www.labnol.org/embed/google/photos/.

The moose hunting and reindeer hunting were certainly adventures. I've also participated in a number of drevjakt (driven hunts) with dogs in Sweden. That is also quite an experience and certainly a lot of fun. But I've had better success with stalking and calling.
