I thought that I would start a new thread as we get updates on the left handed Zastava order to keep everyone informed about what's happening.

I received an email from Elliot saying:

The order has been placed and is in production. We actually ended up ordering quite a few extras as well. If there are any other calibers that you are interested I will probably have them in stock. The only other thing I’ll need before shipping is to get the full payment, but we will do that when they ship.

Thanks,

Elliot

I heard about this late and by the time I called Elliot, the order had been placed. That said, I would like a 9.3x62 and a 7x57 if they are available when the order completes. I will call Elliot and relay same.

BTW: RH CZ 550 at Gunbroker in 9.3x62 as well.

Here are some of the barrel twist rates for most of the ordered calibers rounded off to the nearest whole number. It can give you a head start in load development.
6.5x55 = 1/9
7x57 = 1/9
.30-06 = 1/10
.300 w.m.= 1/10
9.3x62 = 1/14
.375H&H = 1/14
.458 W.M.= 1/14

I could not find barrel contour exact dimensions which I am sure are set to European standards most likely mimicking old Mauser dimensions. Some thing in the dimensions of Lothar Walther 5130 but just guessing.

I traded emails with Elliot and he said that the total number ordered from our group buy was 68 left handed rifles.

He also said that they did order a few extra rifles in a variety of calibers to sell from inventory. If anyone is interested in buying a left handed rifle contact him at:

Gadge, thanks for the reply.

Anyone know if this rifle will be shipped to and sold in the USA? I'm really after the action of the .22-250, but would take any of the calibers.

Max,

There is a long thread on the 'group' order of LH Zastavas in this forum.

Presuming the rifles delivered meet (or exceed) the expectations of the participants, there will probably be another such order.

My calendar reminds me that Elliot should get delivery of the first batch around May 10.

Hopefully, there will be many more and he can have a nice business from it. Maybe the demand is relatively small, but it is there. 68 is not a bad order. Depending on how they look and shoot we may be back for more. Even just as actions for other cartridges.

"My boss was wrong on the ship date that he told me. They are supposed to be here mid-may now, which puts us right at the 90 days."

Sorry to pass along the bad news.

Thanks to all you AR's that kept the faith and made this deal happen. You have made this ol Southpaw very happy.

Maybe we can dress up our new toys and have our own photographic gun show here on AR.?

Once again THANKS

I spoke with Elliot this morning, and he does have a few rifles left. Easy to deal with, and very much a gentleman. I lucked out and got the last 375. I'm looking at two to three weeks.

I received a one sentence answer to my email this morning requesting an update:

It should be here within the next two weeks.

This is the same answer that I received to my update request on May 7th.
I can't believe that their freight forwarder can't give them the progress of the shipment if it's on the way.

If it is close to 60 rifles, it is a fairly large shipment. Is it customary to send such a load by air? If by ship, a delay wouldn't surprise me.

There were 68 rifles in the shipment. But it's not hard to get a progress report from the freight company saying it was loaded on XX ship on May 1st with expected receipt at Port XXX on 20 May, etc.

I ship stuff internationally all the time and I know that I can find out where it is, any day that it's in transit.

Patience, Grasshopper....If I have to be calm about this everyone else does too. This is the first NIB rifle for me. I have lapping compound sitting on the counter, scope, rings, bases ready to be ordered. A lovely piece of Flame Bastone Walnut that was started for someone else that is now in the Happy Hunting Ground. (I will take good care of it for him till I give him a report in person) I'm as nervous as a virgin bride. I am going to shoot it like it is this season,but next year it is getting some serious love.

Your better off not giving any date at all
until you actually know it is on its way and then add 4 weeks and a bit more to the expected ETA because of all the delays that occur because of them being firearms !

That way no one is dissapointed or gets frustrated.

On May 21st Elliot said that all his boss would tell him is that it would be "two weeks"

My last email with Elliot asking if the guns had actually been shipped yet on May 25th has not been responded to.

June 4th will be "two weeks" from May 21st.

IMO if everyone who placed an order has their rifles by 1 Jul I'll be surprised. These things take time, and when ordering damn near any gun that has to be built you can pretty much bet they will not be delivered when promised.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I just received the update from Elliot this morning. His email says:

I was able to find out that they will be here by the end of next week. They come in this week and then just have to clear customs. So sometime next week I should have them ready to go.

So it looks like it's soon.
