Together with our French partner operator we offer hunts for Eastern Tur (Capra caucasica cylindricornis) in Azerbaijan.

Renaud has over 30 years of personal guiding experience and is an authority on hunting all the Asian sheep and Ibex from Marco Polo to Markhor. For the first time we are now marketing these hunts to US hunters.

Base camp

Hunt Itinerary: After arrival in Baku, you will clear your rifle and drive to Istisu which is a five hour drive. From here you will transfer to a 4 WD vehicle and drive another 3-4 hours to base camp where you will overnight.

The next day you will climb/ride to spike camp which is at an altitude of roughly 3,000 meters. Horses are mainly used to carry luggage and gear. You will hunt out of spike camp for five full hunting days before returning to base camp and back to Baku to catch your return flight. On arrival back in Baku you can check into a hotel at get some shut eye before catching your early AM return flight.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Majestic mountains! Terrific rams.
Looks like a place one needs good knees and heart, plus in "sheep shape". Smiler

Anybody ever fly to this country? How hard would that be?

If I can't save up enough for a Marco polo and Ibex then I will be doing this one for sure in 2013 or 2014. I think it would be a blast!

Beautiful country for sure. Is the hunt a good distance from the Iranian boarder?

I would worry about the steep mountains before the Irani's! They are no concern at all.
