I have a grizzly hunt 100% paid for including packer and charter. I cannot go. Scheduled to charter out of Fairbanks Saturday, August 19.

If anyone wants it, PM me. Buy your license and get yourself there, everything else is paid.

The outfitter is Riley Pitts of Big Game Backcountry Guides.

Short notice but the deal of the century.

Saeed, this might not meet all of the rules. I apologize. Time is short.

Thanks.

I am an exercise fanatic. The last 9 months, I have stepped it up in anticipation of backpacking 50+ miles across ANWR. That is a major disappointment. I am getting kind of old for those things. Hopefully another year.

Wow! this is cool of you Larry. I have a 2017 license and already bought a black bear tag before end of year hoping to draw POW. No dice on the draw so hopefully I can put it on a blacktail later on.

I have received a number of PMs. Let me offer the following additional information.

1- This is a backpack hunt. This is not a walk in the park. I was expecting to backpack something over 50 miles. If you are not in shape, don't even think about it.

2- It is a 10 day hunt plus the day before and day after.

3- It is in ANWR, several hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle. Weather can be an issue.

4- I hunted sheep there last year. I saw quite a few grizzlies on the flight in and the flight out. I called off the balance of my hunt after the sheep due to the weather forecast. I made the right call. My guide blew out his knee. it was almost 3 weeks before they could get him out due to weather.

5- I have sent a message to the outfitter to every number, e mail address, his wife, etc. telling him of my situation. I also made inquiries as to whether this could be transferred. I am awaiting confirmation. I WILL NOT LET ANYONE TAKE THIS UNTIL I RECEIVE CONFIRMATION THAT IT CAN BE TRANSFERRED.

Finally, I have received many inquiries wondering if I am ok. The following is the situation.

I am packed and ready to go. I got back from the gym this morning. I got to thinking about the following:

1- I am busier than hell with work. Unimaginably busy actually.

2- I just bought a ranch. I have a lot to do before bow season starts the middle of next month. A hell of a lot actually. I do not have my food plots in. The camp is not been built. The stands have not been set.

3- My wife has a nerve issue in her neck. She is wearing a cervical collar. Surgery seems likely. In addition, she got a stress fracture while we were in Africa. She is wearing a boot. Last night was a horrible night for her.

After all of that, I thought what the hell are you doing? It is that simple.

Oh my, that is the most generous thing i've seen in a long time. Personally i've been saving for a euro bear hunt for 3 years, still quite a few years away so this would be an awesome opportunity. However I live in Sweden so i'd habe to get on a plane within the next few hours to make it there in time - I. E not possible. I really hope the person who get this opportunity shows a great deal of respect to this guy!

Today has not been a good day. It has sucked. I have been about as cheerful as a black mamba with PMS.

A lot of people have asked why didn't I just ask Riley to roll this to next year. Well, given what I do for a living, I get the practical business aspects of things more than most. If I asked Riley to roll this, I have no doubt he would . I also have no doubt that this would adversely effect his bottom line next year. It did not seem reasonable to ask Riley to take the hit. This is my problem not his.

I am glad someone could go on such short notice. Actually, I am a damn liar. I wish it was me. The responsible thing is to stay. Being responsible sucks sometimes.

Riley is a good guy. He just called me from a sat phone all concerned. He offered to roll this to next year voluntarily. I told him that this was my problem. If he rolled it, he was going to take the hit next year. He said that was true. I told him that was not right. I should be the one taking the hit. He said he appreciated that. I gave him the details of the replacement.

He said that had some bad weather. No surprise there. They had taken some good sheep and some good bears. I did not ask about caribou. They had a guide with a broken molar. He was checking on that.

I am still dragging ass over this.

I suspect Larry, that because you did a good thing for the right reason, that the memory of this will grow only fonder and brighter for you all the time.

Years from now, you will look back, perhaps, and smile. God bless, and best wishes to your wife and you!

Larry, you are a champ. When I saw your post with this offer yesterday, I started searching for flights right away. I could of gotten there on time, with the gear I would need, but I know I wouldn't have been able to do the hunt, justice. I been to AK 2 times on DIY hunts, and was successful both times, but it took me 6 months of training to prepare physically, both times. The first week of August, in 2014, my son, a friend, and myself flew out of Happy Valley on a caribou hunt. We had a bit of a wait for the weather to clear and we ate dinner in the galley. Riley was there with 5 or six of his guides and crew going over do's and don'ts and other aspects of his operation. He let us sit in on his meeting and even asked for our input. He seemed like a very good, honest outfitter/guide. Sure would have liked to have taken you up on this offer, as its probably the only way I could afford a guided AK hunt. Good luck to the lucky hunter that is going.
