Larry, that is very generous and kind of you to offer this hunt to somebody.

I know Riley, he is a good dude.

Do you happen to know who the guide that got mauled was?

Thank you sir. Yes, Riley is indeed a good guy.

I do not know who it was. The texts above are 100% of the information I have. Scary as hell at minimum.

If I asked Riley to roll this, I have no doubt he would . I also have no doubt that this would adversely effect his bottom line next year. It did not seem reasonable to ask Riley to take the hit. This is my problem not his.

I am glad someone could go on such short notice. Actually, I am a damn liar. I wish it was me. The responsible thing is to stay. Being responsible sucks sometimes.

I am told the guides name was Jake. No I am not kidding. I am told he is fine. That is good news.

I have no details on my replacement. I have a text out inquiring.

On another note, I am told that 2 sheep hunters quit due to their fear of heights. That really sucks for them.

Good to hear guide is fine. Those grizzlies can get a little ornery up there.

I don't have any way to get in touch with Riley, but Larry, if ya don't mind me asking of a favor of ya, could you ask Riley if Peter Anthony is working for him this fall?

I haven't seen Peter in a while and would like to see him if he is up here.

Thanks,

Josh

She had some sort of injection yesterday. She is not feeling good at all. Hopefully as the day goes on, she will feel better.

The decision was easy. Living with it was tough. It was the right decision.

I have stressed over whether the hunt would be successful. I am thankful that it was.

It is unbelievable that you gave away a Grizzly Hunt. Especially after they just closed Grizzly hunting in B.C. You sir should be commended. I am so glad the replacement got a Bear. Any word on the Guide?

I just got off the phone with the replacement. I have seen the pictures of the bear. It was a very nice bear. I am leaving it up to him whether he wants to write this up or not.

I can say this at this point:

1- They had some bad weather.
2- They saw a lot of bears.
3- He took one of the biggest bears if not the biggest bears that he saw.
4- They did not hike like was planned for me.
5- Due to the weather issues, there were delays getting others out. He was gracious and let the others go first. Patience comes to mind.

I also got a bit more of the story on the guide as follows:

1- Client wounded the bear.
2- Bear goes into alders.
3- Client, packer and guides are looking into the alders from a elevated vantage point. There was a steep bank.
4- The guide was looking through binos when the bear charged.
5- The bear got him and was throwing him around like a rag doll.
6- The guide was kicking the bear trying to keep it off of him.
7- The packer ran over and shot the bear with an (intentional) shot in the lower extremities with a 450 Marlin. This was done to avoid shooting the guide by accident.
8- The bear ran into the alders never to be seen again.

Congrats to the replacement.

A very kind and generous gift. My hat is off to you!

The hunting community we are apart of is made up of many kind and wonderful people. This is just another example.

May the blessings/karma come back to you a hundred fold.

Larry you've impressed me with your principles and your conduct here. Little blown away by how stand up your actions are.

From the other side of the fence as a small family business outfitter it's really nice to see your explanation. I'm sure Riley would have helped you just as we would in such a situation, but unexplained is the hit at the last minute is often brutal for a small business that waits nine and a half months of the year to collect its revenue. All I can say is utterly hats off, and if you're ever on the B.C. coast a fishing excursion is on me and that's not an Internet promise.

That's very generous offer from you sir.

Nice to see people acting like gentlemen. Especially given all the negativity that too often flows on the Internet.

Best of luck to you both on your future hunts.

I'd also add here larry that I'm impressed that you looked at this situation from the viewpoint of others involved. I'm a small operator, one cancellation effects me big time. I've had other AR members shaft me and just not show up. No explaination at all. Ever. Just gotta chalk it up to people being people. I don't know you, but I respect your decision and caring for others.

The incident with the guide happened on the hunt before the replacement got there. The replacement's hunt was not eventful.

I left it up to the replacement whether he wanted to write it up or not. Apparently, he didn't. I get it.

Good that he had a successful hunt. Sounds like he passed on to others the good vibes you started.

It would be great if he had posted his results here but not everyone wants to. That's his choice.
