SAPS pass through question

This may be a dumb question, sorry.

If flying SAA from JFK to JHB, passing through to another country while still on SAA, do you have to do SAPS paperwork?

I'm assuming I could check guns straight through to final destination country (Botswana).

Right?

I'm doing the same thing for a trip with Kananna in May. You can check your bags straight through to your destination without going through SAPS in Joberg. Did this last year on a flight to Kasane in Botswana.

Went New Mexico, JFK, JoBerg, Beira, Moz and back last year, no overnight. Checked bags from Home to Moz, then Moz to Home. Absolutely no problems, no SAPS, simply passed through JoBerg as "in transit" both directions.

Will do the exact same thing this August. Anything you can do to avoid overnight in JoBerg is a good thing in my opinion.

For those of you who do not do the SAPS permits, what happens if your flights are delayed, cancelled, etc and you and/or your guns are hung up in JB ?

SAPS will hold your items in their secure area until your flight leaves.

Larry, you won't have a problem now. When bringing your new Blaser, they'll figure you must know what you're doing :-)

I check my guns through as well in order to not deal with SAPS. However, I've had my flight cancel previously, necessitating an overnight stay at the City Lodge. Because of that, I'm always prepared with the SAPS documents, including whatever peripheral docs are required, just in case a temp permit is required. Absolutely no problems doing it either way.

Thanks guys!!! Wink Didn't realize some of the "other" advantages of owning a Blaser, much obliged. Maybe I'll just tuck it into my carryon bag? I'll tell TSA that you guys said it was OK.

Hey Jerry, are you taking your "new" shoes along?
