First time trying to post pics. Just got this rifle in time for my hunt in Zim on Sept 6. It is a 416 Rigby bolt action.

The stock is african bubinga.

Might I ask who did your stock

I think That some functional checkering is in order, sweaty wet hands and that shiney stock are a recipe for a dropped rifle under recoil!! The calibre is a Great one. Good Hunting. Dr.C

African wood for an African gun is pretty sweet.
What is the finish on that?

The stock was done by Joel Russo in Harrisburg, PA. He wanted to do a hand rubbed oil finish, which would have eliminated the shiny/slippery issue, but we did not have time. I may get that done when i get home though. He calls the current finish and AUTO finish. Which is basically, several coats of clear coating and wet sanding in between coats.

He said he can remove the coating down to wood without problem. I am really happy with the stock. He did a great job considering the timing.

The action is by Stiller Precision. It is actually at TAC 338 Action. Very solid, but took a LONG time to get as his shop was very backed up. In fact it took almost a year to get the action.

Barrel is Lilja, 24"

Swarovski 1-6 scope.

It is shooting very tight groups with the Norma factory ammo the first time out. I will shoot more with it this weekend and provide some real data.

I was pretty sure that was a Russo stock.

Yep, known Joel for quite awhile, my hunting partner. A wise choice picking Joel Russo to do your stock. My compliments on your beautiful rifle, great combo the Rigby w/ Bubinga stock.

Nope, its the real deal and the main reason why i went custom. Tough to get much in lefty up here in the big calibers.

Thats awsome !!! I am having a .500 A2 done on that action (right hander though) looks great !! tell me about the center feed box it should feed darn well !!

Oh how many rounds does it hold ?

I suspect I will lose 1 round capacity with the belt on the .500 A2.

I love the tactical style actions (complete 360 I used to love African style and still do), I will be getting my .416 Ruger built on a surgeon 1086 action in the coming days.

Darn right.....16 lines and sharp.....That gun needs to be held on to!

We need more folks using something besides walnut. There was a 7x57 in rosewood on here recently, awesome.

Any other ideas folks have besides Walnut and Maple?

I agree with you 100%. I make quite a few stocks for customers that want something other than the usual Walnut or Maple. Here's a few tactical stocks that I just made with Bubinga.

It holds 2 down. it was a bit tricky to get it to feed well, but my 'smith did a great job and it is now flawless.

Looking back, i may have chose the 416 ruger. the bolt on my rifle is sure long for that Rigby round.

Hope your gun turns out just like you wanted. I am quite happy with mine, thanks to Joel and Rick.....
