I really like the combination of styles. The classic stalking rifle open grip, and drop at the heal and comb, and the small cheek piece, combined with a scope set up high, so as to not cramp pencil necks. The quick detach scope is a nice feature - just in case, along with that thumb slot for quickly reloading those magnificant 223 cartridges. One never knows in real field conditions when he might encounter charging ankle-biting gophers. In which case, for such close-in work, quick removal of the scope may come in handy, as well as quickly reloading. There are many other features about the rifle to equally like. Aside from the style and features, the wood is fantastic, and equally well appointed and checkered. It's truely a work of art, and a fitting demonstration of skill and egos, merged with the incentive of money and neurotic self-indulgence. A very fine showpiece, indeed. Congrats. I'm sorry Mark, I saw the question but forgot to answer. The action started out as a Charles Daly Mini Mauser action bought on closeout from Numrich gun parts.  Remington sold these rifles but not actions after Charles Daly lost the contract. They were sold as model 799's. I know a lot of Guys here have fantastic looking rifles but this is quite possibly the most gorgeous rifle I have ever seen. I've been trying for several days to find some words to describe how much I like this rifle and it's design, but I'm just not eloquent enough. I'ts one of the best shaped and best executed designs that I think I've ever seen. I've got a .223 project in the wings and I hope it works out half as nice as this one. Well done Terry! They are Warne rings. They were discontinued years ago. Every now and then a pair will come up for sale on ebay. These have had a lot of work done to them. Shane even narrowed them up a little so they look scaled down to match the action. If you go back and look at the at the close ups you'll notice the back ring is thinner than the front. Terry, You've got something to be very proud of there. I should be picking up my Charles Daly mini action next week. I plan to use it for my daughter's first deer rifle. Where did the serial number go when the ring and left rail were cleaned up? Don't know if I'd do something that extensive, but would appreciate a closeup of each side of the action. Greg | |||

TC, this rifle looks like a page from a Holland & Holland catalog, and that is meant as a compliment in the highest regard. (I apologize if H&H rifles are not your liking.) I see no difference in workmanship. IIRC, Terry finishes his stocks and this one is fabulous. A lot of great work was done by a few people, but if the stock wasn't finished as beautiful as this, the whole project would suffer. Nice work, sir. | |||

No offense to either you or H&H, but I saw a bunch of H&H rifles at SCI, and I don't recall many that would stand up to the quality and fit/finish of what I see in Terry's rifle. Don't get me wrong, H&H builds a beautiful rifle, but some of the work coming out of today's custom builders in the US is better. There were quite a few rifles at the Guild Show in Reno that outshined anything H&H had on their table. Photos like those posted don't leave much room for hiding faults. | |||
