Hi there This made the rounds through e-mail at work last fall. Enough discrepancies in the various stories, made me type "grizzly hit by truck" in Google. This animal was hit late Oct. 2007 outside Lincoln, Montana. The various Google hits have more photos of this chunky bear.

I thought something was off with the size of the claws. Most of the grizz in North western Alberta's claws are worn down allot more from constantly digging for roots and stuff. Thanks for the heads up.

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks intended to destroy the carcass. However, the good folks of Lincoln, Montana closed ranks and persuaded the F&G to have the bear mounted life sized. Some money was raised, but most if not all of the taxidermy workd was donated to the town effort. It is, if not the largest, at least the second largest grizzly ever recorded taken in Montana. You can see it today in the front window of the national forest district ranger station in Lincoln.
