I was reading through Terry's book last night and this particular passage made me question his statement:

From page 29 of "Dangerous Game Rifles":

"The resulting design, British patent #1756, came to be known as the Anson & Deeley boxlock, and in the 130 years since it was introducted, it has become the most-manufactured mechanical device in history." (Emphasis added.)

Is this really the case? Is the A&D boxlock really the MOST-MANUFACTURED mechanical device in history? With all of the mechanical devices out there, and all of the military weapons manufactured, I find this statement hard to swallow. But I could be wrong.

If instead of a type of firearm action, it applied to every spring that was cocked by a lever, and then only maybe.
Perhaps he intended "one of the most"? Did the old side-locks have patents?

I believe it was simply a brain fart, that was because of editing, or simply a thought that wasn't thought out too well! I found a few things in that book that I disagree with, but over all it is a fine book, and IMO, worth the price I paid for it! beer

Right at the beginning of the book he also states something to the effect that Searcy and the new Rigby rifles are the latest and greatest on the double rifle scene...in my humble opinion that fully discredited the whole book from the get go!!...keep it English, or don't go double, my opoinion!! Boddington makes the same type comments...just booksellers hype from their sponsors...

Tell me folks, is that what is called the "SNOB FACTOR" that everyone accuses double rifle shooters of??? If so, I guess it is, at least, partly true!

Before anyone starts loading their flame thrower, My favorite brand of double rifle is WESTLEY RICHARDS Wink
