Got my Merkel 375 H&H today. Fired 8 rounds to get the feel and then tried a target in the back yard. A beautiful day to be outside and to live in the country and have a safe and convenient place to shoot. Target at 40 yds.
The first two shots almost crossed, but the second two were just 6/10ths apart--essentially parallel. That's with Federal 300 gr NP SP's. The factory regulation was with Fed TBSS.

Right out of the box-great!

Nice looking rifle as well.

Move the rear sights a touch and lower the front just a little, and you are spot on at 40 yards.

Good deal. What a relief that it shoots straight!

I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers either. Very promising.

Don't change her sights until you have developed a handload with the same bullet and velocity as that factory ammo. That will improve the overall group size also. Then you will be able to stick to your sights long after the Federal factory has monkeyed with the load for the next batch.

Also, before changing anything about the sights, be sure the low POI was not due to holding the rifle down too hard from a bench rested position, whether standing or sitting.

Final sighting should be from a standing rest or sitting upright off of high bags on the bench with nothing touching the rifle except you, your hand around her barrels, other hand at grip and trigger, and your shoulder against her butt. Firmly now, hold tight to the gun and tight to the shoulder, but do not hold it down with any significant down pressure against the rest. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. thumb

cheers
