I could live with 16Ibs if it looked good....but it doesn´t look good...and something that doesn´t look good weighing 16Ibs makes it all worse. I´ll take an LC Smith shotgun over this one.
Actually this fence post driver is cheaper:

I am sure that it is well built, however, it does have that "stocky" look that so many large caliber doubles from Europe tend to have. Would have helped if it had longer barrels.

If I was single and wasn't paying child support, I'd own that in a heart beat.

Damn what a wonderful rifle.

Hambrush is on my short list of gunshops to visit when I do Ferlach in the Spring.

I'd like to write a book about Ferlach gunsmiths, I am hoping to have it figured over the next few years.

I realize I am a literary nobody, but it is something I have thought a lot about, and I don't know of one in English available anywhere.

Yep, but for replacement cost it would be worth it to fly up there and shoot it. Especially if you lived in the Western half of the USA.

16 pounds shocker No way would I ever consider. You are welcome to two shares. Yours and mine. Gun looks like a pig. At 20K, no bargain IMO.

Not my style by a long shot. That said, it has potential to be bored out to .600. Over-priced and over-done and over-weighted (is that a word?).

This is quite a nice Austrian double rifle, I saw it when I was in Anchorage in May for the Aviation Gathering and Double shoot.

IN my humble opinion 16 lbs isn't too much for a 577??!! What does a Royal H&H weigh in at...bet that much too??

Both of these are a local Doc's guns that made one trip to Africa and have been closet queens since...

Cheers,

Haul one of those sum bitches around for 14 days, up and down the "hills" of the NW portion of the Dande Safari Area in October at 125+ degrees F with a full belt of spare ammo and I'm betting you'll change your mind! lol

Personally, a well fitted 577NE is just about right at 12 pounds. Mine was 12.5 without the stock weights, 14.0 with them in. Just that 1.5 lbs made a huge difference. Can't imagine another 2.0 lbs on top of that 14 lbs anchor.

I'll tell you were the real issue with a rifle of that weight reveals itself. 2012 October in DSA, I shot a buff with my 577NE just a bit far back. We spent the next hour and a half bent over at the waist, sneaking around in the thick brush, trying to get a quick view of him for a follow up shot. The weight of that rifle, being carried "out front" in that slumped over posture was HELL. So much so that much of my focus was on the weight of the rifle instead of the wounded buff we were on the trail of. And that was at 12.5 lbs.

I still say proper stock shape and fit are far more important than weight on a big bore DR.

When someome does something nice to you, you should bestow the same nicety on another. Can you give me your .450 NE, please? The spirits of the universe would smile on you.
C-Pap
PS. I'm waiting. Please don't tell me you already gave it to Shootaway!
