I ran across this boy while fishing for fresh water snook. He was far back into the jungle on the Rio Colorado where he had been stealing bananas from someones plantation. He was taking them home to feed to the family hog.

What spires, what farms are those?

I see it shining plain,

Nice raingear! Kinda bright for a thief?
He's gonna need a bigger boat for all those bananas!

Steve, he actually was in a boat that did not show in the picture - it was a dugout type of craft and was filled from front to back.

This is not the same boat but one like it:

According to my guide (who knew the kid) the kid worked at the plantation picking bananas but on Sunday went back and helped himself while no one was around.

jdollar, You will have a blast. One of the thrills is coming out of the river into the Caribbean - where the river outflow meets the tide.

I only caught one Tarpon but after my proper whippin I had enough of that type of fun and spent the rest of my days happily flyfishing back in the Jungle.

They have some bluegill type of fish back there that are as big as frying pans. Here is a little one - they get much bigger but unfortunately you will just have to trust this honest fisherman on that since I did not get a picture of one.

For size comparison, thats an 11 wt rod with an oversized reel that I intended to catch a Tarpon on. After catching one tarpon on the guides deep sea rig I abandoned that idea.

Here is what I figure is a male and female of some type -- being naughty -- or it could be a mama and child frog:

Costa Rica is a great country to visit. The national sport is screwing and it is easy to find a partner in San Jose......

i intend to participate in the national sport as well as catch a few tarpon. this is my third trip in the last 3 years and i have no complaints. Palmer, you are right- that run out of the river mouth and over the bar is a real trip. so far my biggest tarpon was about 175 lbs on a 13 wt flyrod. 2 hours of fun and games. i usually fish conventional tackle the first day, then switch to my own flyrod and reel for the next 4-5 days. spend the last day up in the lagoons after machaca. mojarra, rainbow bass, etc on a 6-7 wt rod. it just doesn't get much better.

Ahhhh. such fond memories of the Blue Marlin and Key Largo across the street! i don't know anything about a T-shirt, though. however, i do recall seeing a number of well stuffed T shirts in both places.
