I would have also purchased today--IF--
the 3G was available AND
a camera was included
and a usb port, etc.

I have had Apple products since 1984( yes, I have windows machines too Mad)

I am surprised as innovative as Apple has been in the past , that such features were delayed/excluded.

this way they can include those features in the next model and sucker people into buying 2 of them- some folks just have to have a new gadget as soon as it comes out instead of waiting a year and getting a better product with more features. witness the 3 generations of iphone, each more feature-rich than the previous one.

Or wait for a faster, cheaper, better equipped clone.

Most people I know that had Iphones have now dumped them for something else.

Looks like they over heat, the antenna is too puny, wi fi software dosn't work properly and the screen is too easy to scratch.

And that's just the first week.

I was a dedicated Mac user but not any more.

A Musician friend who has just got the latest Mac had a fiddle with my machine. Now there's a slightly used Mac for sale and I'll sort him out an AMD 64bit PC he shouldn't loose too much cash in the end. I did tell him but some folks just won't listen.

the hospital where i work gave me a 3G iphone 18 months ago and just gave me the 3GS model 2 months ago. both worked great with absolutely NO problems. great range, perfect wi-fi reception, never overheated( and i never turn it off), and i have never scratched the screen. i guess i lead a charmed life.

I will not buy it.

I have an iphon and an ipod touch for music, and I love them.

But, Apple should have included an SD card slot. Without it it is as good as pointless, for me at lerast.

I use a Sony Vaio Z series laptop for travelling with. The battery lasts 5 hours, it has a new i7 CPU and a very fast SSD, plus 3 USB ports and SD card slot.

Sounds like that laptop needs a good cleaning.

I can't get on with laptops, even the top Mac ones. I'm now used to this machine where everything happens FAST. It's setup with Linux on it as well, when it's running Ubuntu it's almost too fast, stuff happens so quick you don't have time to get a coffee, or even realize it's done it sometimes.

So a puny little tablet or "smart" phone would just wind me up.

Get yourself a laptop with an Intel i7 processor and lots of RAM, plus an SSD.

It is a really different world using an SSD instead of a hard disk.

I am currently using a Sony Vaio Z117, with an i7-620M CPU that goes up tp 3.33 GHz with Turbo Boost, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD and Win 7 Pro 64-bit.

It is the first laptop that I have ever had that would play AVCHD files without stuttering.

And it boots extremely fast, compared with a normal hard disk.

6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.

Forrest, what are you running on that thing, Windows 95?

Six minutes? It's not a netbook, is it? Your laptop is either underpowered or it's running a lot of crapware.

PM me and maybe I can help you speed it up.

Yes I've heard the SSD is a big improvement in a laptop.
I used to get Sony gear for free or cost price, but my Sony guy retired, so I'd need a good reason to buy one at shop prices, and I don't do anything these days that requires mobile computing.
But the next time someone asks me to sort a nice laptop, I'll try that setup.

Neither of my engineers can use my HP-48gx... I have emulators running on every computer and even my Nexus One runs it faster than the original.

I think you could launch the shuttle with it

This is the Biggest problem with Apple and the "I" hardware:
Steve Jobs attacks Adobe Flash as unfit for iPhone

EW YORK – For iPhone users who've been wondering whether their devices will support Flash technology for Web video and games anytime soon, the answer is finally here, straight from Steve Jobs: No.

In a detailed offensive against the technology owned by Adobe Systems Inc., Apple's CEO wrote Thursday that Flash has too many bugs, drains batteries too quickly and is too oriented to personal computers to work on the iPhone and iPad.

The REAL reason Apple won't let Flash run is that it gives application control to the Flash developers and takes it out of Apples approval process. My Samsung Ultra and Nexus one phone don't have that issue.
"Freedom": Simple concept that Apple does not get.

All of this is kind of ironic given the "1984" ad Apple produced back in 1984

I have had a Samsung Ultra Q1 for about 2 years: front and rear cameras, joystick, "texting" keyboard. 8-9 hours of battery life, touch screen, Windows XP, SD card slot, USB, Monitor out, LAN, Wi-fi, blue tooth. external battery, less than $1K,

* Full-powered UMPC with split QWERTY keyboard and 7-inch LCD touchscreen--weighs just 1.52 pounds
* Windows XP Tablet Edition, 800 MHz Intel Ultra Mobile A110 processor, 60 GB hard disk drive, 1 GB RAM, fingerprint reader
* 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, 10/100 Ethernet
* Up to 9 hours of battery life, built-in speakers with enhanced SRS TruSurround sound, dual array microphone of VoIP, dual Webcams
* Connectivity: 2 USB 2.0, audio jack, headphone jack, external VGA, SD/MMC memory card slot.

It's a great tool and FAR exceeds the capabilities of the Apple. (IMNSHO)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you're producing Video, Apple makes toys. the Blackberry is a tool and the Google Nexus One is the Hybrid. I've had a couple of Blackberries, an i-phone for 6 days and I now own and use a Nexus One. There is no comparison if you want to work from your phone. Most of the apps are free, the rest are $1 USD (with rare exception)
Steve Jobs sealed his fate with the "NO Flash for Apple" speech. Apple is the establishment now and, stock price not withstanding, I don't think history will judge them well.

on my ipad II .. its far faster than the ipad 1

an outstanding email platform, with highly useful applications.

this from a (formally) hard core blackberry user -- who's switched to the iphone 4 recently.

the blackberry playbook? its not ready for anything.. weird interface, piggy-backs off your bb PHONE for data access if no wifi available...

BB torch? higher than 5% return rate from ATT due to bad touchscreen and/or keyboard - but great camera

bold II? FANTASTIC phone, fair camera

Allan, i am a hardcore techhead for the last 20 years, making my primary income within IT .. the ipad allows some users to circumvent LEARNING how to use a PC.. but my 5 year old grand daughter can use the ipad.

The beautiful thing about Apple products and the iPad especially, is that they make things simple. It's easy to over-complicate things by adding gizmos, whizbansg and hanging crap all over it, but when you make something better by making it simpler, that's where the real genius lies. It is also very hard to do because knowing what to remove and why is much harder than thinking of something to add.

There is a story where Apple was working on a DVD burner and all the tech guys sat in the boardrom and had their ideas ready to pitch Steve Jobs. Steve walked in, drew a box on the whiteboard and said "This is what I want. You drop files in it and then click Burn" All the other guys had much more complex ideas so the story goes. Look at your MAcs and see which version they stayed with...

Oh, and I wish I could sync a mouse with the iPad...when it syncs a pointer appears, when its nit synced the pointer goes away...brilliant! That way you can take full advantage of the docking station and synced keyboard

I laugh at my neighbor's iPad...

Though they laugh back at my 64gb Blackberry Playbook... but If I was inclined to get another tablet device I'd go with a Samsung Galaxy Tab, a fraction of the cost of an iPad, and broadly supported Android operating system, plus SD support

Apple has been enormously successful at making people look like idiots while making them think they are "Tech savvy"

My ipad is only used to view movies, and read books.

Sometimes I use it for browing.

And the reason for that is Apple has got a centralized store, where I can buy many movies, and books.

In addition, I can use my ipad to read Kindle books too.

Android is shooting themselves in the foot by not having one place where one can purchase these sort of things.

I will be teh first one to give the ipad up.

I don't like Apples close system one little bit.
