The cheapest wildcat you could get into would be the 8mm Gibbs. You could keep your barrel and just rechamber. John Give me COFFEE and nobody gets hurt

Not to be negative, but why convert? The 8x57 is a great cartridge when loaded to modern pressures, every bit the equal of the .30/06. What you have is **good**. analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.

well because I already have a 7mm mag, a 30-06, a 270,a 243,and two 30-30's also the 8mm are pretty difficult to find around here so what the heck if I am gonna reload why not find something larger and fun to shoot I am really intrigued by the posts on the 375-404 wondering if that action would support that cartridge. I think you mean 404-375 =) Thanks! Well if you wanted to build one I would suggest doing a trade and get a 375 hh to rebore for ease of conversion and cheaper. www.midwayusa.com is a great place to get all of your bullets 8mm 404 or otherwise.

The simplest way to power up the 8mm Mauser is to convert it to the 8x60S (no wildcat). Little mor power and the possibility to use (expensive) factory ammunition!

Stan if you have a good barrel on that rifle consider the 8mm-338 winor as it used to be called the 8mm Poor Mans Mag. A simple rechamber open up the boltface and the feed rails and you are ready to go.There are several sets of used 8mm 338 dies listed on E-Bay for cheap. You can run 338 brass into the 8mm-338 die load and shoot. Performance is between the 338 and 300 mags so that fits nicely with the selection of calibres you presently have. If a new barrel is in order the 9.3x62 is a very useful calibre. Let us know what you decide.

The 8mm-06 is an easy conversion with reloading dies being readily available. I like the 8mm Mauser in its original configuration,it will do anything the 30-06 will do and makes bigger holes as well. Free speech has been executed on the altar of political correctness.

it's an old military bolt action, shoots poorly and I don't need it for hunting, so when I can talk my wife out of the money, I am going to rebarrel it and make some kinda sporter out of it. or just do it a little at a time from my mad money. it's all about having anouther rifle that is fun to shoot-lol

If that's the case, find a good take off military barrel in 8mm. The barrel should be relatively inexpensive, as is the surplus ammo. (Corrosive, but a little soap and water handles that prior to "normal cleaning.) Another thought, if not already "sporterized" the rifle may have inherent value more than you perceive. Example, 1909 Argentines, Nazi marked K-98's, some of the others, Mexicans, Chileans, etc have seen their values increasing lately.
