Here's a novel idea:

How about basic 30-06 length 284 Win brass?

Think of the experimenting you could do on a basic non-magnum action if you had a bunch of this.

No more need for a magnum bolt head to acheive 300 Winnie results...

Try 10.75x68 brass. If enough people are interested I am sure it can be modified with a .473 head. Which leads to the only other dilema. Price! That is why you need other participants. Not sure as to the minimum but it can't be reasonable.

That case exists already.

It's not the RUM brass, it's the 9.3X64 Brenneke case.

The rim is rebated on the 284 Winchester.
On the 9.3 Brenneke the rim is slightly larger than the 30-06 rim.

The RUM is based on the 404 Jeffery, and it's rim is the same diameter as the 375 H&H and other belted magnums.

The Old Western Scrounger sells the Brenneke brass.

n.garrett...

the brenneke brass is a great platform...just needs to be 375 or 416...the 416 is a neeeeeeto idea and not hard to convert from a 30-06 from my understanding...i am curious to know what a 300 350 and 400 gr 416 bullet would do out of it gunsmile

A 416 should be a snap with plenty of shoulder and velocities should be easier to achieve with more pleasant pressures.

the 64 is cool because of the 30-06 conversion...taylor power on an 06 is cool. belt vs rebated...i like the rebate! the only downside is cost and avaliable brass but once you have it noooo problem

9.3 Breneke brass fits easily into the magazine of the Remington 7600.

The problem is getting the barrel made.

that would be a nice toy...a 416 brenneke 7600 pump...i wonder if it would hold up???

the 9.3x64 brenneke is cool too but it needs to be a 375 brenneke to be legal d.g.

i need to make some 416x64 dummy rounds...

i am thinking this would be a great fast acting rig

ask for some bread...get stale bread...

ask for sourdough, warmed with REAL butter...

well, you know.

whats wrong with asking...i would do it but i dont have brenneke brass...

i think it is a neet cart with intreresting possibilities.

the neck would need trimming a bit to work in an 06 action though.

glad to entertain thumb

Jeffe,

I know...but all the same: what if, eh?

If I had access to a lathe I would have probably never thought about it. All the same though, I really am surprised that no one like Quality Cartridge offers some basic brass like this. Surely I can't be the first one to think of it?

And oh Boom Stick, thanks for pointing this out. Ought is the correct word. With the day I've had, sometimes things slip past me. I have edited the title just for you.

Garrett,
the capacity may, but the case is NOT a x64

Chronology...
404 jeffery .540 casehead
x64case ~.500 casehead
284win -cut down and rebatted 404 jeffe case (.475)
Imperial mags (opps.. remington does not like these mentioned)... propritary case VERY much like the 404 (.550 nominal, .545 actual casehead)

RUM cases ... the rebranded imperial mags (remington bought them) that are essentially 404 cases (as one can make 404 cases from them)

and since you can make 404 cases from RUM brass, you can rebate the rim and make 284 brass

the x64 (or brenneke) case is a different line all together.. you can't make a 284, 404, or RUM from or to starting with x64.

you CAN make 376 steyr rounds from it...

and the rest of the steyr wildkittens...

Boomstick.
killpc
NO dang it... 9,3x62 is generally the listed minimum, and 9,3x64 is generally held to be the generally level threshold... one doesn't NEED a .375, as the .366 bullet is perfectly legal in ALL african countries for exactly that same power class... that's why the 9,3 is so very popular there... it doesn't kick much.

Tex,
you certainly can get more done with ANY lathe than no lathe... but you can buy one HELL of a lathe for the 5k between turning the rims off RUM brass and having a custom run of brass done Smiler

You're not and neither am I. I'm sure. Have long lamented that unformed .284 cases, 2.5" long were never made. We would not have needed RUM. beer

The .425 WR comes close but the larger case diameter creates other problems plus the fact that all the brass available has been soft. Frownerroger

You can make your own brass, with headstamps.

There is a guy in germany who can make you 100pcs if you want. Or how many you want/need.

Tooling cost is 250€ and 1€ per brass. The cost goes down with more produced..

Food for thought. Someone on this forum had a CZ550 in 9.3x62 rechambered to 9.3x64. He did have to have the bolt face opened up a bit, but apparently no feed rail work was needed. Magazine capacity was reduced from five to four rounds...
