The 500 A-Square & 510 Wells have been done, both based on the 460 Wby case which is the Rigby case with a belt. The Wells, loaded with 530 grain gas checks and 650 grain API's: NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

To use a 416 Rigby out to 50 cal you got to have shoulder to headspace on. Ed MZEE WA SIKU

I think the 50 Buhmiller was made in the late 50`s maybe early 60`s by a guy named John Buhmiller who did a lot of african hunting. He extracted bullets from the .500 Nitro express(570 grain) and inserted them in a .416 Rigby!!!!!!. John Buhmiller Was a barrelmaker from Montana!. Please take my info with a grain of salt....... This info was something I read in a G&A over 20 years ago or may be more, but that is what I believe to remember!. DRSS: HQ Scandinavia. Chapters in Sweden & Norway

yes.. didn't work for crap 404 (or rum) has a .530ish (.528 or .535 doesn't make a real difference) case head. assuming super thing brass (.007 per side) and a .510 bullet, that leaves you a "taper" AND headspace of .003 PER SIDE.. straight walled case indead so, let' s back into this.. (using diameters .510 bullet .040 for head space .02 for case walls and .03 for "taper" .. case would have to be a MINIMUM of .600" (assuming no belt) Now, Boom stick, please got buy a COTW jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? As Ed pointed out, there is not enough shoulder to use the Rigby as a 50 cal, you gotta use the belted Rigby known as the .460 WBY. John Buhmiller used the .378 Weatherby case necked up to .45 and .50, before Weatherby created the factory .460 WBY. I don't think he messed with the .416 Rigby at all. Buhmiller also used a rebated base lead bullet (like a giant .22 rimfire bullet) on top of a blown out .375 H&H. The bullet over-hung the case mouth and sealed the bore, headspaced on the case belt. Boom Stick: You gotta stop asking about the nonsensical .475 RUM. The .475 Rigby >>> .470 Mbogo. I have heard of a .50 Lapua, or .50 Rigby type cartridge, and careful handloading might pull it off, especially if you headspaced by jamming the bullet into the lands ... maybe a Buhmiller .50 Rimfire-rebated-base hard cast lead FN ... Nah.

yeah thats right...i asked about the 475 rum...sorry...alright...but doing the 510 or 458 on the mbogo case?...you could say it is overbore. the 458 and 416 would be a screamer on the mbogo case although the 510 might be too big 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. There are three options for a beltless 50 cal that used .510" bullets. The 500 Jeffrey, as originally designed, the 500 AHR which is the Jeffrey with a full dia rim, and the 505 gibbs necked up to take .510" bullets. All other rimless sporting cases are too small in dia to produce a sufficient shoulder to headspace on. Since I don't give a rat's petard about belts, the practical and sensible way to build a 50 is the 500 A2 et all. 460 W brass is cheap for a 50 case, easy to come by, and holds enough powder to do whats needed with bullets up to 600 grs. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

is the 500 a2 better than the 510 wells? the 50-505 seems to be the best just buy the c.z. 505 rebarrel and a smidge of reamer clean up damn...that should catch on. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

The 500 A2 has become the standard of the various 50 cal 460 based rounds, and on that basis I would consider it the best. I coudn't see buying a 505 Gibbs and re-barreling to 510-505. You also loose out on the cheaper easier to come by 460W brass. If you want a "practical" 50, the 500 A2 is the way to go, if you want nostalgia, 500 Jeffrey or 505 Gibbs. Oh yeah, I forgot the final cool practical 50, Ruger #1 500 NE. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.
