What about this for a single shot cartridge? Just take the 9.3x74R and neck it up to take .410/.411 bullets. Don't change the taper and you get a ghost shoulder like on the .470 Capstick, with about 89 gr of water capacity, which is 14% more capacity than a .405 Winchester.

With readily available brass and a wide array of bullets, both cast and jacketed, what's not to like? Whadayathink???

i'd go ahead and go 416, not .410 .. more bullets ...

but, then again, it's do it the easy way, and take norma 45/120 brass and neck it down .. huge case, on par with 450/400 ...

in fact, i may just do that .. easy enough ..

but, a 45/120 NITRO with rem 405s is a pretty gentle singleshot .. one buys a HR "buffalo" in 45/70, runs a reamer in, and has a DR capable rifle... used to be $50 bucks and shipping for a trigger job

i've got this on the short 45/70 barrel ... it looks like i am holding a red rider BB gun, in my gorilla arms, but it fun to shoot

all that being said, you can buy a Baikal double rifle in 45/70 for less than the cost of dies, reamers, barrels, etc, and have a ball

Thanks for the input, jeffeosso. I think there may be more big game bullets for the .416, but I like the option of all the pistol bullets for the .411 diameter. Still plenty of CEB and GSC for the big stuff in .411.

I like the idea. I have thought about this exact cart for a while now for a rechambered Ruger #1 but you can get more use out of a long seated 405 Win. Rob Gunbuilder has one like that iirc. I was thinking about using the higher PSI rated 74r brass to do this.
