am thinking about the possibility of building one of these and would like some feedback on good and bad experiences with this caliber. i primarily would like to target 180 grain bullets and interested about velocity etc. etc.

The late, great P.O. Ackley said that there is no possible excuse for the 30/350 (7.62x55) except in a short action like the Rem M600. He didn't think too much of the cartridge. You need to read his comments.

He lists 180 grain loads at 2875fps.

No first hand experience with this one. But if my data is correct the 350Rm has a capacity of 75 grs the 35 Whelen is 73. So wouldn't a 300/350 really just be a 30-06 in a short action?

As usual just my $.02

I had a remington 600 in 30-350remington mag. I picked it up secondhand for a song. It was a fun little round that did what I expected it to(nearly match the 30-06). If I had it on a longer action, I would have probably liked it better, but it worked out ok...I sold it to a hunting buddy who just had to have it. Makes no sense in today's world with the 300 wsm as a factory round.

I shoot a .30x350 mag because I was given a 600 Rem that someone had put a Mag bolt into a .308 action and the guy couldn't figure out why the bolt wouldn't grip the case head. I took it to my gunsmith and had it rechambered. I use .30-06 data but I don't quite get 06 velocities due to the 18' barrel. Damn fun gun and at 6.5 pounds scoped easy to carry.

i built one of these maybe 20 years ago, whenever the mod 7 came out. i shot the 150 gr bullets only. it's kindof a short mag before the term short mag.i remember shooting around 3150-3200 fps with a 22" barrel and the case holding a bit more powder than an 06. i have an 11 twist, CM barrel chambered for this with a mat finish and muzzle brake that came off a mod 7 action and a FL die i'd part with if anyone's interested.

Heres what a .30/350mag could look like done on M70wsm receiver.
3"+ magbox, bolt face ready to go,feeds fine.... all right&ready to accept your .30/350rm.
I could suffer something like that .in 7mm,.308,.338,.358,.375/350Rm-without much complaint.

and while were at it, heres a .350reMag done on m70wsm receiver. Brad put me onto the existence of this rifle, from 24hrCampfire.

Mr.Jones, you may be on to something. I figured the .30x350 was a little off the wall but the idea of a short .366 is starting to get my juices flowing. Something to really think about. Thanks for the suggestion.

Cazador, you would get 30-06 velocities if your 30-06 had an 18" bbl.

I did one many years ago for a guy in Hawaii as a walking rifle for big hogs and perhaps a wild steer. He got a tad over 3000 fps with the 165s in a 22" barrel and 2900+ withe the 180s. Know it worked really good. I cut the chamber with a piloted 6.5 RM reamer and then neck/throated with a separate reamer. Saved a bunch on a custom reamer.Good luck.
Aloha, Mark
