Has anybody tried to make a 6.5-223, 7-223 or 30-223? The 30-223 is very similar to the 300 Whisper, but the 6.5 and 7mm has very high BC bullets. Im wondering what speeds I could be able to get out of a these with: 100-160 grain in 6.5 120-180 grain in 7mm 160-220 grain in 30 cal As a bonus, here in norway its legal to use silencers, and if the speed is low enough (1050 fps?) how far will I be able to use as a point blank range with either of these high BC bullets? Its around .5-.8 This would be used for Roe deer..

Look up the 6.5 mm and 7mm TCU's These were developed for use in handgun silouette competition, and have found favor with deer hunters. In a 14" pistol barrel either round will push a 120 gr ~2200 fps. The TCU's are a slightly improved chamber design over a simple necked up .223. I'd be concerned about bullet performance of any small dia round when driven to subsonic speeds. I'd want a minimum or 35 caliber but preferably larger in dia for taking big game with 1100 fps loads. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

I think a 6.5 would be the best way to go.. it would be in a 18-20" barrel.. I get high BC with 120 grains, and can push a 140 grain++ for fun.. Any idea of speeds with a 100-140 grains?

I'm guessing with an 18-20" barrel you could be in the 2400-2500 fps range with 120's, and down around 2200 with 140's. I guess that puts you just shy of a 6.5X54. Folks have also necked the PPC case to 6.5mm, and get around 2700 with 120's. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

Dear Nortman, I made up a 6.5/223 [TCU] on a little Rem 700 with a Shile barrel and kevlar stock. The barrel is 22 in long and accuracy is flat astounding! With EVERYTHING! The 120 Sierras get right at 2675 fps and work fine for the little Blacktails around here. Accuracy being so good it makes a sweet and pretty quiet short range deer rifle. Good luck on your project! Hmm.. a 223 necked up to 6.5 shooting a 108grain Scenar, at 2700 fps, is actually better then the 308 m118 round that le/military is using. It only has 80 ft lbs less knockdown at a 1000 yards. Less windrift and drop as well..

Bochia: do you remember the OAL of your cartridge loaded with the 120grain? Im wondering if you could get a 6.5x45 with a 108 scenar into a AR-15 mag?

Dear Nortman, For my 600 I seat the bullets to 2.440. I back them to 2.890 for the AR and both shoot great as the throating in the two is different. Sorry I took so long to answer but had knee surgery and been down for awhile. Aloha, Mark When the fear of death is no longer a concern----the Rules of War change!!

the 338-223 that is in ctg of the world is a full length case blown out mine is 1.5 and made to fit a standard 223 mag box et ar15 rem 700 they list it as some bs low velocity useless round. Ihave found that with 160 gr x bullets it just shithammers pigs out to 200 and full velocity is in 16 in of bbl very handy. the 250 gr x subsonic is great through a supressor. both loads work great for their purpose.
